You Can Trick Some of the People Some of the Time

Ann H GabhartAnn's Posts, One Writer's Journal 34 Comments

You can fool all the people some of the time and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time. (Generally attributed to Abraham Linclon with some Quotation Experts doubting he ever said it.)

As Yogi Berra is quoted as saying (true or not) “I haven’t said half the things I said.”

But whoever said what, I obviously did not fool many of you with my first mystery picture. I was afraid of that when I posted it. You all are just so smart.

Of course, I took some consolation in the fact that only a few of you got it exactly right. That was Lisa B., Marji E., Kathy with a maybe in her guess but the right one, and Maria F. That’s because many of you knew it was a dewdrop but you didn’t say where exactly that dewdrop was located. You said leaf, flower, cactus, plant, dog’s hair, pine needle, lemon grass, branch, stem, grass, weed and more. I had to love Jacinda’s dog hair guess.

One of you did get it exactly right. Connie said it was the dewdrop on a dandelion stem from the picture I posted a week or so ago on my Facebook page. Sigh. I knew I should have waited a while to use that as a mystery photo. LOL. It is such a unique photo that I’m glad I used it even if you all did guess it.

Well, most all of you. A scant few of you were nice and guessed wrong as you suggested it might be an insect egg, tree sap, and my personal favorite wrong guess, a radish for a salad. You three gave me the courage to try to find a new mystery photo that might, maybe, trick a few more of you. It’s up top and I have to admit that I hope you all don’t get it right. If you do, I’m definitely off my game as athletes are known to say when they strike out, miss every goal and trip over their own feet in the middle of the field or court.

Remember, that while the game is fun whether there are prizes or not, I do have prizes. Well, books anyway. Three winners will get their choice of one of my books. Everytime you guess on a new mystery photo, you get another entry in the drawing. The deadline to enter a guess on any of the photos is May 31, 2022 at midnight EST. You have to be eighteen to enter, but feel free to consult your kids if you need help. However, it doesn’t appear as if many of you needed any help!

I could be I was just trying to make you over confidant with that first picture as I sucker you in like a card shark at a gambling table. But no gambles here. Just fun. I look forward to your ideas about what Mystery Photo 2 is. One thing it is not and that’s a dandelion puff. Of course, you already knew that.

Okay, get ready, get set, and go. Tell me what you think this mystery photo is.

I’m waiting to see if you all get it right too. I’ll post the rest of the picture on Sunday night.

When the Meadow Blooms Release news

Fun to see the reviews for When the Meadow Blooms posted on Interviews & Reviews. I loved seeing all those stars lit up.

Carolyn had some especially nice things to say about the story. “With a skillfully crafted plot, totally engaging characters, vividly sketched settings, inspiring spiritual truths, and a bit of sweet romance, this book brought tears and cheers and earned a spot on my Best Reads of the Year list.”

Thanks to all of you who read my story and enjoyed getting to know my characters in Meadowland. Every review posted is much appreciated.

More great guesses, guys. Thanks for playing along with me.

Ola, you are joining in with some of the others with sparkles and cloth. I could have spilled some glitter powder on a sofa and hoped to confuse some of you. If I did, it isn’t working.

Amy, I love how your mind was working as you went from red blood cells to a lava lamp and more. Maybe one of those guesses will be right or maybe not.

Eileen, soap bubbles would be a lot easier to clean up than that spilled glitter or sequins.

Jacinda, I do love flowers. So, you never know.

Robin, you have more confidence in my picture taking than Lee who wanted to guess a rooster comb but didn’t think I could get a rooster to pose for me.

  2. I just finished this wonderful story. I literally had a hard time doing anything else until I finished it. I always love your books, but this one might be my favorites until the next one gets to me. I especially loved the meadow and the crows!

So glad you enjoyed going to Meadowland with my characters, Linda. Stanley and Josephine were perfect friends for Sienna. I’m going to share some more crow stories on here after we play this mystery photo game. A couple of people shared some really neat stories about crows with me that I just have to share forward.

Favorite stories are sometimes hard to pick, but glad this one is in the running.

  3. This one is hard. The more I look at it, the more things I think it could be. My first thought was a red blood cell through a microscope. Then I thought a sequin, lava lamp bubble, or the pattern in the bottom third looks like fabric. So there’s a lot of answers to say I really have no idea.

Thanks for all the great guesses coming in. At least this time you’re not all guessing the same thing so you can’t all be right. I love Lisa’s guess of a prom dress and the local school did have a prom here last weekend and my granddaughter did get all dressed up and went. You should have seen her fingernails. Wonder if I took a picture of them?? Suzanne is right there with Lisa with her sequined dress. Don’t you know the kids would have liked dresses with dequins? So maybe it could be. Maybe.

Emily and Nancy are seeing a rug while bn100 sees a towel. And don’t you love Paula seeing sugar on a red napkin? Could I have been that crafty? Hmm, that remains to be seen.

Lee, I think you’re right about that rooster comb or Frankie’s tongue. I can see what you’re seeing. Wonder if you’re right and Frankie did let me take a picture of his tongue or did I hunt up that picture of a rooster I have somewhere. Could be. Or it could be an azalea. I love azaleas.

Flowers were on the mind of Hope and Marji too. But the best guess yet is Lucy’s Lunar Eclipse. We did have a lunar eclipse last wee and it was a red moon. And I am one to take a picture of anything. We’ll just have to wait and see, Lucy.

For some reason and who knows what, you got stuck in the spam folder for a while, Kim. But I rescued you and saw your thoughts of the mystery photo being a red jacket. The big reveal of the rest of the mystery photo is coming up soon, but you are entered in my drawing

  5. It looks like a flower petal to me, maybe a tulip? I have a feeling that I am going to be way off on this one! 🙂

  6. You win on this one….I have no clue.
    I’m guessing it’s a close up of a flower petal 🤷‍♀️

  7. I suspect that the red is from fabric in a dress or fancy top, and the shiny places are light reflecting off sequins or buttons.

  8. Salt or sugar crystals on a red napkin.
I forgot to guess last week!
    I love your mystery pictures.

  9. My first thoughts were a dog’s tongue or a rooster’s comb but I can’t imagine how you’d get either one to sit still long enough for a close-up photo. Actually, I think it’s an azalea bloom.
