A Spring To Do Happiness List

On a beautiful spring day, it can be easy to be happy. On a beautiful spring day that also happens to be Easter Sunday, it’s easy to be joyful. Due to picking up a pesky germ that has me keeping the tissue box always within reach, I think I missed going to church on an Easter Sunday for the first time since I got married. Trust me, that’s a long time. So, the day was a little weird without church and without a family visit, but it was still a great day to remember the blessings of life.

Maybe you started the day with some chocolate or jelly beans from the Easter bunny. I bought a bag of jelly beans, but haven’t opened the bag. I’m waiting until I have others here to help me eat them, but I have been sneaking one or two of the mini candy bars that I had intended to be part of the Easter Egg hunt. Guess I’m finding those.

A little chocolate can sometimes change a person’s mood from grumpy to happy.

At our church we have a special time set aside during the service for prayer requests and also for giving thanks for  good things we appreciate. Sometimes we call them “everyday blessings.” We might mention the little things in life such as sunshine and rain, a grandkid’s hug, a kind word, or flowers. On second thought, those aren’t such little things. Could be chocolate might have been mentioned this morning.

I love this next quote and it was certainly that this morning when I went out to walk the dogs.

My favorite weather is bird chirping weather. Terri Guillemets

Smiles are another thing to be thankful for as the following quotes say.

What sunshine is to flowers, Smiles are to humanity. ~J. Addison

Let us always greet each other with a smile, for the smile is the beginning of love.  ~Mother Teresa

The happiness of life is made up of minute fractions — the little, soon-forgotten charities of a kiss or smile, a kind look or heartfelt compliment.  ~Samuel Taylor Coleridge

Most smiles are started by another smile. ~Unknown source

These next quotes are things we should all keep in mind.

If you have only one smile in you, give it to the people you love. Don’t be surly at home, then go out in the street and start grinning “Good morning” to total strangers. ~Maya Angelou

Kind words do not cost much.  They never blister the tongue or lips.  They make other people good-natured.  They also produce their own image on men’s souls, and a beautiful image it is.  ~Blaise Pascal

So now that we are firmly entrenched in happiness quotes and I hope smiling, here’s a T0 Do List for Spring

~Laugh

~Sing

~Read under a tree

~Count your blessings

~Hope

~Hug your little ones or your older ones

~Walk barefoot in the grass

~Give thanks

~Love

~Keep on loving

~Take deep breaths

What would you add on your Spring To Do list?

  1. I am sorry to hear that you missed church on Easter. That happened to us back in 1990 as both my son and my husband had the chicken pox. I hope that you are feeling much better and will be able to make it to church this Sunday. What I would add to my Spring to do list is to take the time to enjoy lunch outside on the pretty days before it gets too hot to do so. We used to have picnics out in the yard a lot with our kids when they were little and also our granddaughter. Always nice to enjoy the breeze, listen to the birds and have good conversation.

Thanks for the get well wishes, Becky. We’re working on it and do hope to be better for church this weekend.

Picnics out with your kids and granddaughter sound fun. We used to have a weiner roast with our grandkids now and again. That’s a good thing to add to a spring to do list.

  2. Ann – I pray that the warmth and joy of springtime will help to
chase your cold away. Do take best care of yourself as you heal.

Where I live up north, we are enjoying the early pops of color here and there and the return of the robins. I look for the lacy textures of new growth that appear on the woody winter trees and bushes and love the fresh scents of the greening grass and warming earth. It’s all so splendid and much more to come – we are so blessed.

Love your description of spring showing up in your area, Mary Clare. Things are really popping up here becasue of unseasonable warm temps today. But the cold is coming back. I just hope it doesn’t get too cold to mess up the flowers and trees that are already blooming. But the weather does what it wants.

Thank you for your kind get well wishes. I’m feeling much better today.

  3. I love to just stop and listen to the birds singing and chirping. There’s a lot of them this morning after the rain.
I hope you and Darrell feel better soon.

  4. I would add: Pick a bouquet of forsythia and put it in your kitchen. I hope you get well soon and am sorry you had to miss church on Easter.

Love bringing in flowers from the yard. I had some hyacinth blooms and japonica earlier in a vase, Lee. My forsythia didn’t do well this year. Just had a bloom here and there. It’s got a vine growing up in it that I’ll have to work on getting rid of soon. Thanks for the kind get well wishes. I’m feeling better.

I’m so glad you enjoy my posts here, Ann. Thank you for letting me know that and thank you for your prayers. I’m feeling better but still staying away from everyone.

  5. I’m praying for your recovery! I’m so glad you live where you can still go for walks without the danger of giving someone else your germs. On pretty afternoons, my husband and I have been sitting out on our patio to watch and listen to the birds feeding and chirping, read a book, and just relax. Since we live in Houston, TX, it will soon be too hot to do so in the afternoon. We may have to shift to using our patio early in the morning or in the evening. God created a beautiful world!

I’m feeling better today, Suzanne. Thank you. It does seem to want to hang around with the lack of energy. My husband is still feeling pretty rough, but he generally struggles to get over colds and flu type things.

Sitting on the patio and enjoying the outdoors and a book does sound nice. It was almost 80 here today. Very warm, but the temperatures are crashing later in the week. But I’ll still go out with the dogs to experience the beauty of spring. Just hope we don’t have temperature cold enough to mess with the new leaves and flowers.
