Every Day Can Bring a New Mystery

There is always a pleasure in unraveling a mystery, in catching at the gossamer clue which will guide to certainty. – Elizabeth Gaskell

I’ve had a great time playing the mystery photo game with you all this time around. It feels like we just got started instead of being already to our last mystery photo. I have struggled over what to post this time. I had three, maybe four options. Photos I took and considered and reconsidered and decided maybe and then maybe not. You may all get this last one, but I guess that’s only fair since I’m wondering if I played fair with the last one that turned out to be a complete mystery to all of you. I should have given you a better view of the mystery. Still, then it might not have been a mystery at all.

The one thing I am sure about in this game is that I can never be sure which of the photos will turn out to be the biggest mysteries. Wednesday’s picture turned out to be one of those biggest mysteries. A green frying pan or a wheel on a cart or table turned out to be popular guesses. I liked those of you who saw one of those old tin toys or a spinning top. A few of you went the food route. I have been known to take pictures of food. I just did this game with a piece of homemade bread toast. There were guesses of bell pepper, lime. cookie or cake, and kiwi.

I love the imaginations some of you have. Lisa saw a praying mantis. I still can’t imagine that one. I thought Kim’s guess of the bottom of  a Mountain Dew bottle was clever. An earring by Karen was good too. I had to smile at Amy having no idea but coming up with the thought that I might be starting  a new business of making paw print garden stones. Actually a fun idea if I didn’t have to play with concrete and dogs that might not want to step in gooky stuff. That wouldn’t be Frankie. He’d be ready to step into anything messy and then track it around. I’ve had to give him two baths this week when we got back from our walks after he rolled in some cow piles. Very unusual for him, but it made me remember my neighbor Saint Bernard dog that used to love going on walkw with me. She thought she was putting on perfume whenever she saw fresh cow piles. She liked to smear it on her neck. So no, I’m not starting a garden stone business.

There was only one absolutely correct guess. That was from Una. She didn’t solve the mystery, but her guess that it was something green was certainly correct. So here is the big reveal.

So it wasn’t a stick or a pot handle or the leg of a table, but my granddaughter’s arm as she got ready to turn loose of the bowling ball to make a strike. Well, she probably didn’t make a strike but she did knock some pins down and the two of us had a big time bowling last summer. Lee’s green balloon guess was probably the closest to right. I did think some of you would see it was a ball, but I guess I didn’t show enough of the bowling ball for you to see that.

Whether you got the guesses right in the mystery game or not, I hope you’ve been having fun. So we’re down to our last mystery photo for this round of mystery photo game. I thought this one might be too hard, but I tried it out on my daughter and son-in-law, and they got it right off. They didn’t get the bowling ball one. My granddaughter didn’t either. LOL. Not even after I told her that was her arm. You may all know this new one, but I thought the picture was neat.

If you leave a guess, right or wrong or an I don’t know, you’ll get your name in my giveaway drawing hat for a chance to win one of my autographed books. Deadline to enter is Tuesday, Juhe 6, 2023 at midnight EST. I’ll pick three winners on Wednesday and contact those winners by email before I announce the winners on Wednesday night’s post. You do need to be 18 years or older to enter. Again thanks for making this game really fun.

So what is that odd picture up top?

You all are keeping me smiling with all your imaginative ideas about my mystery picture.

Linda, a pile of leaves sounds like a very convincing idea of the picture. I have taken many pictures of piles of leaves. Sometimes with a dog in the middle of them or sometimes a grandkid.

Connie Lee, Frankie does love going to the creek. I could have caught him resting a moment. Maybe.

Joyce & Ola, snakes do show up when I’m walking sometimes. I do often jerk my camera out of my pocket and snap a picture. Did I for this photo? We will soon know.

Suzanne, hmm, ice cracking. Could be.

Loretta, so glad you’ve enjoyed the mystery of the photo game. A pond with lily pads sounds beautiful. Might even have a frog sitting on one of them.

Donna Jean, that kind of door mat sounds very interesting. I think angels and dogs go together nicely.

Paula, somebody might have given me a snake patterned rug or shirt. I probably wouldn’t have bought myself that or I could have borrowed one from someone to take this picture. You never know the lengths I might go to in order to try to stump you all.

Nancy, I like your guess of a fire pit. I can see that. Whether I saw it while I was taking the picture is another question. We’ll find out in tonight’s post.

Deborah, a bowl of water. That might be easy to come up with for a mystery picture. Maybe I have a terra cotta bowl. Maybe I don’t.

You all are doing it again. Making this maybe my best mystery photo game ever. Of course, you know I like it when I stump you and I did stump you all on that last picture. I really didn’t aim for it to be that hard. I should have done an easy one and maybe I did with this one. 🙂 But it could have been easier, for sure.

Lisa, a stream or creek is a great guess. I do walk down a creek now and again.

Shari, I love waterdrop pictures. Maybe I got one to work on a rainyday.

Susan, what a great guess. You could even be right. Or maybe not. We’ll see Wednesday night.

Dana, I like your eye that sees a painting or a picture. I guess you’re right with that second one. It is definitely a picture. A small piece of a picture anyway.

Angela, that’s an interesting guess, but t-shirts can have some interesting patterns. So maybe you’re right.

Liz, snakes do need to be somewhere away from me. But I have been known to take pictures of snakes when I take a walk with the dogs.

Marji, I like a woman who admits sometimes that she just doesn’t know and then gives it her best shot anyway. I have birdbath in my back yard. I might have taken a picture of it this winter.

Judi, a wood chunk. Could be, maybe. Bark can look pretty odd at times and if you follow me on FB, you know I’ll take a picture of anything. Good or bad at this photo guessing doesn’t matter. Having fun is what matters. Hope you did.

Lana, what a great guess. A round rug with animal pictures.

Birdie, that is one beat-up tire. Don’t think I’d want to take it out on the road. The question is did I take a picture of it??

Amy, you and Liz are thinking alike with the snake idea or lizard. You can take pictures of some neat reptiles at the zoo. Some spotted ones, I’m sure. Maybe I did. So glad you have enjoyed the game.

Pamela, you are thinking something thew same as Lisa with the creek bed and some others have seen a dog. So you may be seeing straight. Maybe. Maybe not. We’ll find out with the big reveal Wednesday night.

  3. I think it is a path outside where the cat is sitting and I can see the reflection of a dog in the picture Have a Blessed Day!

  4. I think it looks like the end of a log of wood. First thing I thought of when I looked at it. 🙂

  5. Whatever the dark, round thing is, it appears to be sitting on a wooden table top or floor. (The photo came through REALLY dark on my computer, so it’s hard to see much detail in the “dark, round thing”.) I’m guessing your daughter and son-in-law guessed it right away because they’re familiar with your house and its furnishings. My guess is a trivet (fancy hot pad) on your dining table, or perhaps a dog bed/mat on the floor.

  6. Another hard one to guess! I really have no idea, but I’m thinking it’s something in the woods or a creek….maybe a wet rock, mushroom or moss?
Thanks for another fun guessing game! And it’s wonderful to hear your books are making the finalists list!

  7. I think you have been on one of your dog walks & stopped by a little water hole where your companion is on a stone enjoying all the live activity going on in the water and maybe a cool drink of water…
    😊

  8. I think it is a mat you put in front of the door on the porch, as I see dogs and angels in the pattern.
