Talking Books with Friends

Do you see some of your favorite inspirational historical fiction writers in the picture above? Five of us got together on Book Talk with Cara Putnam to talk about our books and why we like to go back in time to write those stories. Each of us has a new release and if you go over to Cara’s website here, you can read more about the books and enter a giveaway to have a chance to win one of those books.

I’ve been fortunate enough to have spent some time with Laura Frantz in person as well as in her books when I’m reading. She asked me to read her first book, A Frontiersman’s Daughter, for endorsement. She simply gets better and better with every book. Her readers love her and we were all happy to hear her say in our Book Talk that she had so many ideas she’d never be able to write them all. Now, that’s a fortunate writer and fortunate readers to have a chance to read all those stories. She just returned from a trip to Scotland. So watch for some Scottish heroes in her upcoming books. Her current release is A Heart Adrift.

I’ve never met Amanda Cabot face to face, but we do enjoy talking via the internet when we aren’t deep in a deadline rush. I’ve read some of Amanda’s book for endorsement and she’s been great about agreeing to read some of mine for endorsement. Amanda always fills her historical novels with great details of her time period. I invited her over to my blog once a few years ago, and she shared a post on “The Joys of Hands-On Research.” Here’s a little of what she said in that post. “Love it or hate it.  When it comes to research, few authors are neutral.  Either they consider it a necessary but unpleasant part of writing a book or they believe it’s one of the most enjoyable aspects of the whole writing process.  I’m firmly in the “love it” camp.”  You can read the whole post here. Love her stories and I think you will too. Her newest release is Spark of Love.

I haven’t met Stephenia McGee or Rachel Fordham. Their new books look like some I want to add to my TBR pile. Rachel’s Where the Road Bends is getting great reviews. Rachel  is a busy mom who also fosters children, plus she homeschools her kids. So I admire her commitment to get anything written and then to write a book that readers are loving is amazing. If you click on the link above to hear our panel discussion, you will hear her talk about all she does.

Stephenia’s book, The  Secrets  of  Emberworld about horses and a woman trainer back in the days when that wasn’t accepted by horse people sounds like a great read. Stephenia is a busy mom too. I smiled when she talked about writing on the fly or grabbing time to read while she was waiting on kids at soccer practice or wherever. I remember those days with my own kids. Fun times, but things can get hectic.

And then there’s my When the Meadow Blooms.  I enjoyed hearing about the other writers’ work and lives and I think you will too. You can check out the talk on YouTube here or on Cara’s Book Talk Facebook.

Don’t forget about entering the giveaway on Cara’s website for a chance to win one of the books I’ve shown here. Deadline to enter is in about 10 days.

Meanwhile I just sent out a newsletter with some giveaway chances too. So check your email boxes and if you don’t see it, better look in that nasty old spam folder to see if it might have landed there instead of your inbox. If you aren’t on my email newsletter list and don’t get a copy let me know, and I’ll send one your way. It’s easy to sign up to be sure you don’t miss out on any book fun. Just sign up on the form in the side panel here on my website.

Do these books look like some you might want to give a try or have you already read any of them?
