Mystery Photo 1

What a week so far! An Appalachian Summer officially released yesterday, June 30th. As I said in my last post, it is always, always fun having a new book out for readers. Then it can be a little tense waiting to see what those readers are going to say about the story. So far the reviews and comments have been very nice. I appreciate each of you who may have sent one of those comments or perhaps posted a review or just shared some encouraging words with me. You’re the best.

Yesterday, release day, things were pretty calm. While it would have been more fun to have a book signing or a release party, I had to pass those fun things up due to the COVID-19 worries. I wouldn’t want to have an event where somebody caught the virus. Better to be careful. So instead, I went for a walk with the dogs, cleaned a little on the house (very little), and worked on stringing up the pole beans out in the garden. That sounds really exciting, doesn’t it? Okay, so not so exciting, but let me assure you it was very hot.

But while I was busy out there sweating, things were happening in here on the internet. I was getting replys from my newsletter with people entering in my giveaway. You all were responding to my giveaway here. I did draw out a lucky number and that number matched up with Sandi Keaton-Wilson. Sandi, I sent you an e-mail so check your messages to claim your prize.  And then today I was away from my computer most of the day (that does happen now and then) and my e-mail blew up with all sorts of fun going on about my book.  I might overwhelm you if I try to share it all. But before we move on to mystery photo fun, here are a couple of the fun notices I got today.

First, my publishers, Revell Books are having a Summer Reading Challenge. Now, that’s the kind of challenge I like. Oh, to spend the summer reading. But to help you and all of us with that challenge, they have teamed up with Baker Book House to offer some books you might read in this challenge  with a 40% discount. You can check out the Reading Challenge link, to see which discounted books you might like to read. One of them is my recent Shaker book, The Refuge. So, this is a great time to grab it for a great price.

And here is the link to one of my interviews today. This one is with Fresh Fiction and I get to talk about my book and about my writing journey too.

Now to the New Giveaway – Mystery Photo Time

I know many of you enjoy my mystery photo games. I have to admit it does strain my brain to come up with pictures I think might trick at least some of you. Not sure whether the picture up top is a picture with mysterious vibes, but I’m hoping it might be. I’ll pick a couple of winners who will get one of my books (winner’s choice) and a grab bag book by a different author you will surely also love.  Or I have been known to let the winner choose two of my books. Deadline for entries will be July 18, 2020 at 12 midnight.

Each time you guess on a new mystery photo you will get an entry. You can get your kids to help, but to enter you must be at least 18 years old. Guesses don’t have to be right. I prefer every mystery not be solved too easily. 🙂 If you don’t have a guess, you can just say you don’t know and still get an entry in the drawing for the books.  But it is fun to guess. And of course it’s more fun it you make your guess before you read any other guesses which might take the mystery out of the mystery photo. I’ll reveal the entire picture of this mystery photo Sunday and post a new mystery photo then. So let’s have some fun.

Thanks for reading and I hope you’ll play my mystery photo game.  I’ll add some of the links to my interviews and more on my News & Events page. As I said, not many events, but some of these posts and interviews are neat.  Many thanks to Susan for the lovely graphic below.

So what do you think this mystery photo up top  is?

  1. Looking forward to reading your new book. Loved The Refuge. Mystery photo looks like a piece iyf fencing, maybe near chicken pen as background looks littered with feathers .

I’m so glad you enjoyed my last Shaker story, The Refuge, and hope you will like my new mountain story too. Fun guess and the chicken pen sort of fits my new story. 🙂 We’ll see if you’re right on Sunday.

  2. I won’t even pretend I know. But almost looks man made. Like a plant tie of some kind. Gosh you’re good at this!

That’s a fun guess, Lucy, and shows your farm background. But then I have a farm background too. Sooo, it could be you’re right and it could be your wrong. No vote right or wrong for sure until after the picture reveal on Sunday.

  3. No wonder such a good fuss about your new release. I am so happy that I won and I choose it!! Makes for a happy 4th for me!!! Thank you so very much. I remain a devoted fan!

I put your book in the mail today, Sandi. But with the holiday you might not get it until next week. I do hope you’ll enjoy the story and that you do , indeed, have a happy 4th of July.

Betsy, I’m not saying you’re right or wrong, but I do think you might win the prize for most original guess. It’s good when we get the imagination all fired up. Glad you enjoy my mystery photo game. And who knows? You might have hit the nail on the head. 🙂

Maria, thanks for your guess. It goes along with Betsy’s bird leg and foot. So we’ll see if either of you are right when the picture reveal happens on Sunday’s blog post. 🙂

Marji, thanks for your good wishes about my new book’s release. So fun to have a new book out for readers. Your guess on my mystery photo shows some farmer background. And could be you’re right. I have that farmer background too. But could be you’re wrong. We shall see on Sunday.

Hope, you and Paula are thinking along the same lines with the tomato cage guess and we do have some tomatoes in the garden that need to be kept off the ground. So, a great guess. I’m not saying a right guess, just a great one. But I’m not saying a wrong guess either. 🙂

Judy, yours is the second lug wrench guess. I can see where that’s coming from and of course, if your guess is right, it will be more than easy to see where that’s coming from. We shall see. On Sunday.

Michelle, it could be a trellis. I want to imagine one full of blooming roses. Of course, I could have just cut the blooms out or who knows what with these mystery photos. Thanks for your guess.

Thanks for playing my mystery game, Nancy, Joy, Judi & Laura. Sorry about making you sneeze, Laura. Nancy & Judi, you’re thinking along the same lines. And Joy, you have some independent thinking there. Wonder if any of you are right. We’ll see the photo reveal on Sunday night. 🙂

    1. So many thoughts here: a close up of a hay bale with wire wrapped around it, a bird’s nest with twigs, a basket? 💜 Psalm 138💜

  6. Close up of a tomato cage. Or part of what you use to string up your beans?
Read my copy of Appalachian Summer! My reviews are up. Loved the book as always. Blessings !

Thank you so much, Paula. I very much appreciate you reading the book so quickly and posting reviews. That’s so helpful in these internet reading and book selling days. I did see your review and appreciate your kind words about the story.

As to your guess, you’ll have to wait until Sunday to see if you’re right. Or wrong.

  7. I was thinking that maybe it is a tomato cage or small trellis surrounded by last years plants that have died off? Not sure, but I love trying to guess. 🙂

  8. This looks like broken strapping on a bale of hay🤔

Congratulations on the release of AN APPALACHIAN SUMMER!

  9. I believe it’s part of a broken wire fence and a field in the background. I ordered your book but it hasn’t arrived! Waiting patiently!

Thank you so much for ordering my book, Carolyn. I appreciate that and do hope you’ll enjoy the story when it shows up on your doorstep or mailbox or wherever. As I used to tell my children and irritate them, no doubt, patience is a great virtue.

As for your guess, you could be right along with those who have also guessed fence, or then again, you could be wrong, along with those who have guessed fence. 🙂 Sunday will tell.

  10. This is a wild guess: a bird’s leg & part of the foot??????? Really shooting in the dark but I enjoy your mystery photos!

  11. This looks like a section of old farm fence in a hayfield . My book is out for delivery today … can’t wait to read it !

  12. It’s part of a fence!? Thank you for the opportunity to win one of your books! And, I can’t wait to read Appalachian Summer!

    Best wishes,
    Judi Trimble
