Frankie & Marley Caption Fun

“Did you know that there are over 300 words for love in canine?” – Gabriel Zevin

I know. I’m late. It is Thursday, not Wednesday when I usually post. But we had company last night and had to get a new television set up since the one we had just blew up a couple of days ago. Now, while I can make it fine without a TV (at least, until basketball season) my husband likes his TV time. But really, isn’t book time better? We don’t have those streaming programs out here in the boonies and so no binge watching for us. That’s okay too because as I’ve already said, I prefer binge reading.

Thank you all for joining in the fun of my Caption Game. Your caption suggestions were great once again. I loved all the Grammy captions. The idea that we were doing a cheer was a good one that several of you suggested. I like Connie’s “Joy, Joy Down in My Heart,” too. Another Connie used the Hokey Pokey song. You know where you put one arm in and shake it all about. That song was always such fun to sing when we were at 4-H camp back when I was a kid. I wonder if kids sing that anymore.  For sure, as many of you mentioned, my arms were full of love. Your captions kept me smiling.

I don’t think I can top your captions, but I guess I should come up with something. If I want you all to exercise your imaginations, I should do the same. Mine needs a little exercise as I am ready to start down a new story path with a whole new cast of characters. Right now I’m in the hesitating and wondering stage. Hesitating to jump into the story and wondering what adventures and trials my characters are about to have. This is another story set in the Appalachian Mountains.

Oh, but what about that caption? Hmm. How about  “Yay! Time to play!”

New Caption Picture

“Live. Laugh. Bark.” – Unknown

One more picture for your captions. Frankie and Marley said it was their turn to be featured. My new dog, Marley, is settling in good here at the farm. He seems right at home and as far as I can tell, isn’t homesick for his former owners, although I’m sure he’d be ready to go with them if they came for him. Marley is becoming a bit more adventuresome and doesn’t listen quite as well as he did when he first came. But he still makes sure he keeps me in sight when we’re walking even if he does take some side sniffing trails. Last week he had to have a bath three days in a row when we came back from our walk because he found something not so nice for me to sniff to roll in. But he’s patient with the baths. More so that Frankie. Thankfully Frankie doesn’t like rolling in cow piles. That’s a trick I don’t want Marley to teach him. There’s plenty of tricks I don’t want Frankie to teach Marley too. They both already know how to dig for moles and chipmunks but as far as I’ve seen so far, Marley doesn’t catch any. Frankie does come up with a mole now and again, but not lately. I think the ground is too hard for him to pounce through the dirt on them. Or maybe he’s distracted by Marley.

So what do you say? What caption would you give this picture of the two?

If you leave a caption here on this post, you’ll get an entry into my book giveaway to have a chance to win your choice of one of my books and a grab bag book by a different author. Aww, that’s sweet, Lucy. And maybe true. I’m hoping we don’t get that tested out with the coyotes in the area. Actually Frankie did meet one practically nose to nose not long ago. I saw the coyote go into some bushes. I didn’t have Frankie on leash and of course, he paid no attention to me calling him back. I was worried there’d be a tussle, but Frankie ran into the bushes, obviously saw more than he wanted to tackle and ran back out. I got the leash on Frankie and the coyote simply slunk away. That’s how coyotes usually are. They like to stay unseen, but we hear them plainly enough at night usually.

Not sure that’s good, Lois. I’ve been a little nervous about Frankie coming across a cat. Not sure if he’s ever been around cats. I figure he’ll think it’s a squirrel and poor kitty better run fast to make it up that tree. In fact, if I see a cat across the way when I’m walking (a neighbor does have some cats he feeds) I always yell to make it run before Frankie spots it. Not sure about Marley and cats, but if Frankie were to chase one up the tree, Marley would be in the supporting cast, I’m sure.

That’s a promise I hope Frankie will keep, Nancy. 🙂 That promise to be good. What I’m worried about is Frankie teaching Marley to have selective hearing the way Frankie does if he see something interesting across the field.

Well, I’m very glad to see that Frankie is remembering his manners and introducing his new buddy in the proper way, Roma. 🙂

Nice, Connie, and very often very true. I don’t have any brothers, but I have some great sisters who are also great friends. But now Frankie has a friend that does want to stick right beside him. Frankie lies down, Marley lies down beside him.

Best buds, for sure, Lisa. Some dogs need a buddy and some don’t. I used to have a chocolate lab along with a couple of other dogs. That guy needed friends around. Neighbor dogs came to hang out with him. I used to say if anything happened to my other dog then, I’d have to get a dog for Dub. Then I had Oscar after that. Oscar liked being an only dog. He put up with it when I kept the kids’ dogs but he was always very happy when they went home and he had his room to himself again. Frankie is the I want buddies type and now he has Marley.

Sometimes they do snuggle, Suzanne, but sometimes they play rowdy and I have to kick them outside. I think Marley gets tired before Frankie. I think everybody gets tired before Frankie!! But then we’re all older than Frankie. LOL

For sure, Frankie is very glad to have a friend who comes to stay, Ola. He has the occasional visiting friend, my kids’ dogs, but this one has settled in and Frankie is proud of it.

Oh dear, Carolyn. Now I think I’m going to be singing that song the rest of the day. Maybe Frankie will join in and Marley too. We’ll have a sing along. 🙂

Joan, they are definitely buddies. Unfortunately my daughter’s dog wasn’t as enamored with Marley as Frankie. I’m hoping their next meeting will go better than this one. But Frankid and Marley have no trouble getting along.

Evelyn, yep, they’d love to be on the rabbit trail, or the chipmunk trail, or the mouse trail, or the mole trail. But most especially on the wild turkey trail. Frankie is ready to chase most anything and is glad to have help along in Marley.

Shirley, I thought somebody would say this one. I like it. Very true to the picture.

Connie, I think you’ve been reading Frankie’s mind. He’s definitely very happy with this new “toy.”

Linda Diane – it does look like Frankie is ready to protect Marley. Fun thought and Marley has settled in and does feel right at home.

Marilyn, I think your caption hits the nail on the head. They are new best friends.

Karen, you’re right there with Marilyn and me. They are fun friends. Wherever Frankie is, Marley doesn’t want to be far away. Often he lies down right next to Frankie. I’ve seen those puzzles made from your own pictures. Frankie’s fur might make a challenging one.

Lois, don’t encourage them. They are ready to wake up and find trouble way too often. LOL. Actually, they’re pretty good dogs. They – especially Frankie – like to bark at the coyotes at night – from the safety of their fenced in yard.

Sharon, I’m not sure Frankie is able to call alpha dog. Marley might be newer and smaller but those extra years count for something. Actually I think they take turns at the alpha dog, but no doubt Frankie would be ready to claim it. 🙂

Loretta, you’re thinking right along there with Sharon. Frankie would like to call the shots for sure. I keep trying to convince him that I’m the one to call the shots. LOL.

Janice, you are absolutely right about it being too hot out there. The boys have been spending a lot of time inside. We’ve still been taking walks but I’ve been trying to go in the morning before it gets so awfully hot and while there is more shade where we walk. The shade makes a big difference.

Martha , for sure Frankie is thinking that. He is very happy to have a furry friend.

Lavon, neat that you found a Scripture reference for your caption. Two may very well be better than one for Frankie and for Marley too. They both like the company. Glad you’re enjoying the Caption Game and everybody’s imaginative captions. I think it’s fun, for sure.

Love the captions , guys. You have me smiling.

Paula, that is something Marley would say occasionally for sure. He’s got some years on Frankie and needs that rest. Sometimes I’m ready to say that to the guys when they’re ready to go out in the mornings. Wait a minute. I’m pooped!!

Betty, love your caption. It does look like Frankie literally has Marley’s back!

Emily, maybe that is a doggie hug. Frankie does like hugs.
