Marking Things off my Bucket List

Have you ever thought about making a bucket list? I’ve never actually sat down to write out a list, but there are some things I’ve always wanted to do or see.

For one, I would love to see an eagle flying over my farm. Second to that, I’d settle for an eagle flying past wherever I am. So someday I’m going to have to go to one of those eagle watch weekends at the state parks here in Kentucky at the Land Between the Lakes.

Another thing I’ve always thought would be neat to see is the moonbow at Cumberland Falls here in Kentucky. My husband and I went on our honeymoon many years ago to the Cumberland Falls. No moonbow then. But we happened to be on a mini-vacation with Darrell’s family last week not far from the falls and it was a full moon on a clear night. So all ten of us climbed into a couple of cars and took off for the falls. And there was the moonbow.

It was a silvery bow going from the top of the falls to the bottom. You can’t see the colors or take a picture with a regular camera. You have to have one of those fancy cameras on a tripod that you can set for a 30 or 45 second exposure. I did try to take a picture and it was black since it was dark. The falls didn’t even show up. However, there were plenty of people there with fancy cameras on tripods. So, not one to miss an opportunity, I peeked over their shoulders. The last guy I saw taking a pro picture was friendly so I asked if I could take a picture of his picture. He let me and that’s why I came away with a great picture of the only moonbow you can see in the United States.

Another thing I’ve wanted to do for several years is come to Michigan to visit the Baker Publishing Company that has published my last nineteen (I think) books is. That’s going to happen tomorrow, God willing. I’ll get a tour of the publishing house, get to meet some people I’ve only met through e-mails prior to this and even get to have a book talk and signing at the Baker Book House tomorrow night. I’m hoping somebody shows up besides my husband!

Could be that’s something else I should put on my bucket list – to have a full room at one of my book events. I guess I have had that at my Hometown Book Parties. Thanks to all my hometown reading friends. Love you all. Anyway, no matter how many show up, I know I’m going to have a good time.

Seeing a giant horse wasn’t on my bucket list, but now that I’ve seen it, maybe it should have been. Plus, that horse is surely a tribute to believing there are no limits to creativity. I saw the horse along with many other amazing sculptures and some beautiful trees, flowers and plants at the Frederick Meijers Gardens here in Michigan.

Sometimes it’s fun to have some surprises to add to your bucket list. Maybe winning an autographed book could be on your bucket list. It might happen. I was planning to announce the winners tonight, but I forgot to bring my list of names with me. So it will have to wait until weekend.
