I like nonsense. It wakes up the brain cells. Fantasy is a necessary ingredient in living. It’s a way of looking at life through the wrong end of a telescope. Which is what I do, and that enables you to laugh at life’s realities. ~Dr. Seuss
And so we come to the last mystery photo of this Mystery Photo Game. Thank all of you for being willing exercise your imaginations and laugh at how getting only a bit of the picture can sometimes lead us on a goose chase as we chase after the reality of the rest of the picture.
Wednesday’s mystery photo was hard. I wouldn’t have been able to figure it out if I hadn’t been the one to clip out the bit of the picture to share with you. Sometimes, I’m not as fair as I should be in this game, but that’s part of the fun of the game – to take an object or thing or something as Una said about this picture and make it look like something else.
You all had some neat guesses on this one. The popular guess was some kind of fabric hanging from a door, a curtain rod, a bedpost, or over a chair. Some thought it looked like an open door or the tine of a fork. Lee said a grooming brush or a fork in a slice of chocolate cake. Lavon was seeing an icicle in my rocky creek. I’m glad she let her granddaughters have some fun with the mystery photos too. Kris saw an onion skin or a flower petal. Marji saw coconut. I liked Marti’s guess of a backward book on a shelf. Maybe I’ll try that in the next Mystery Photo Game. Loved Paula’s guess of a coin slot on a piggy bank. Connie thought maybe I was sharing an insect’s leg.
I liked Hope’s guess of part of a Shaker chair. That makes a great way for me to remind everyone that The Outsider is still on e-book sale at several internet sites for less that $2. As soon as this game is over, I think I’ll share more about writing that story while it’s still on sale. Look for that soon.
But meantime, I loved how you all exercised your imaginations and helped me exercise mine since I could see why you all guessed every guess. Well, maybe all of them except Loretta’s ghost trick. Not sure I could have pulled that one off.
Nobody was right. Another winner for me. So here’s the rest of the photo.
Did you catch my use of “goose chase” earlier in this post? So, this is the neck of one of the Canadian geese that has decided my yard has delicious bugs or something. Two or three of them come searching for breakfast here often. I watched one day as I wondered if they were trying to steal my front yard cat’s food. I asked Mama Mia, but she didn’t tell on them if that was true. The food she leaves in her bowl wouldn’t make much of a meal for this big goose.
The new mystery photo might be a hard one again. Maybe. Or some of you might know exactly what it is. But just in case, you are a little tired of me dropping all these hard ones on you, then I’m adding another here at the end that I think many or maybe all of you can figure out. That’s why I didn’t use it as one of the main mystery photos. I really don’t like it when you guess it too easily.
So you can do double guessing this round. Guess on the actual mystery photo up top. And then guess on the one at the end of the post that I’m imagining will be easy.
If I was guessing, I’d need an easy one after spending all week sitting with my husband in the hospital. I’m thankful he’s better and was able to come home on Friday. He just has to get his strength back from being laid up for that week. I haven’t been able to figure out why sitting at the hospital with him and doing absolutely nothing except reading and talking can make a person so exhausted. I think if I’d been home to wash the rest of my windows the way I had planned to do last week before his health problems, I wouldn’t have been any more worn out.
The important thing is that he is on the road to full recovery. But most of my windows still need washing.
Several years ago, somebody posted a review after reading one of my Shaker books, maybe The Outsider, the one that’s on e-book sale, (I slipped that in there again, didn’t I?). Anyway, the reviewer said reading one of Ann Gabhart’s books made her want to wash windows. So maybe I should read one of my Shaker books and then I’ll get those windows washed. Other reviewers were nicer and said reading my books made them want to read more. 🙂
So, on to the important part of this post. What are the mystery photos???
Guessing on these mystery photos will get you an entry in a book giveaway and an extra entry if you’ve already guessed on the other mystery photo posts as many of you have. Deadline for entries into the giveaway chance is midnight EST Tuesday, June 9, 2026. Two winners will be chosen by random drawing and notified by e-mail. In my next post, I’ll share their first names and last initials along with their state and book choice if I know that before I post on Wednesday evening.
And thanks so much for playing my Mystery Photo Game and for reading my stories. You all are the best!

I’m glad your husband is doing better. I think it’s worry, being out of our routine and being wakened up by nurses and the beeps of necessary medical machinery that makes us so tired and worn out more than a strenuous physical activity.
I never would have guessed the goose neck!
I believe this week’s mystery picture is the inside of a walnut. And the easy mystery picture is a piano key.
I bought The Outsider ebook and started reading it and am hooked from the beginning.
I’ve had fun guessing these mystery pictures!

Thanks for buying The Outsider, Janet. I hope you will enjoy reading about the Shakers and more.
You are right about those hospital sitting hours. Never any fun even when the patient is not having acute problems that make for a more active role of the visitor.
I’m glad you had fun with the mystery photos. It’s always a challenge for me to come up with photos that aren’t too easy for everyone to guess. You know like that last picture on this post. 🙂
The top one is a cat the bottom one piano keys .
I am confused about which picture to guess. If it is the top one, and probably is since it is so hard, I think it is some kind of cat. The bottom one is easy, piano keys!
I had a cat that looked like the first picture.
I can think of several instruments that have a keyboard, piano, accordion, organ, melodica, harpsichord, pianoforte.
Is the top one a ribbon that you would win at an event. The bottom one looks like a key off of an old small piano like the one my grandma gave me.
For the first one it looks like a mirror image, of what I’m not certain! I see a snake in the midst of it.
The last one is piano keys!
Glad to hear your husband is recovering. Hospitals are stressful for the patient and attending family members so don’t sell yourself short! You were doing much more than sitting there
I’m guessing a cat.
The top one looks like a cat, and the bottom one looks like the keys on a piano.
Ohhh boy, that goose got me! I have several of them here on the lake and they are not nice! My poor Ollie found out the hard way to leave them alone, when one took a bite from the top of his tail. My son dubbed them “cobra chickens”. Thankfully Honey doesn’t bother them, or maybe they’re intimidated by her larger size?
Anyway…good one Ann!
I think the top photo is some sort of moth or butterfly…it looks symmetrical. The bottom one looks like piano keys.
Have a great week! I’m thankful your hubby is home. I’ll be praying he’s up and about soon.
Piano keys
Looks like a cat with horns but I’m going to say it is a fungi. I’m glad your hubby is doing better. Sitting in a hospital wears a person out more than if they are busy. I washed all my windows, doors, and deck furniture yesterday to get rid of the pollen. Have a blessed week dear Ann.
The bottom photo is fairly easy: it’s some kind of keyboard, like a piano or even an accordian. The top photo is harder. I’m going to guess the center of a flower.
The top one looks like a cat to me, but what it’s from, I have no idea! The last picture is piano keys, cause you can see those black ones one each side of the ivory one.
The last photo is a white key on the piano. The one at the top of your post looks like two birds at a fountain or in a field that has a scarecrow in the background.
It looks like it might be an organ keys or piano keys
Looks like a cat
The bottom is piano keys. The top looks almost symmetrical. Reminds me of a cat’s face. But I thought it might be a kaleidoscope or the pattern in a rug.
The top one could be a flower. The bottom is piano keys
You really got us all on that last photo! I never would have guessed that but can clearly see the long neck now. The bottom photo is piano keys and the top one seems like it might be some sort of Egyptian art of a cat. I clearly see the cats face but know I could still be wrong. I hope your husband continues to feel better. I think hospitals are exhausting for everyone and makes being home again feel extra good.
The top one looks like a rug and the bottom one looks like piano keys.
