This giveaway deadline is tomorrow, November 10th. So, if you want to enter you need to do it fast.

I was invited to be part of the giveaway because of my book, These Healing Hills.  In it, Ben comes home from World War II, changed by the war but very happy to be back in the hills where he grew up.

Going to war changes a person. Many men who served in the two World Wars were country boys who never expected to go across the ocean for any reason.  In my Rosey Corner books, the father character, Victor, was a World War I veteran although in the first story, Angel Sister, that tells of his war experience, nobody thought about war being a first. They thought it was the Great War that would end all wars because it was so terrible that no countries would ever want to go through something like it again. Some of that character’s experiences were based on my own grandfather who was a veteran of WW I. And then in the third Rosey Corner book, I have Jay coming home from World War II after being oversea for years. That was true for many of the soldiers in that war. They went to war and didn’t come home until the war was won. Then they came back to their homes after years in the war and picked up life where they’d left off before they joined up or were drafted into service.

I read about some of these soldiers homecomings. One soldier I read about hitchhiked part of the way to his country home and then walked the rest of the way. He just showed up. No phones to let his parents know he was coming home. That was how I had Ben going home in These Healing Hills. His family knew he would be coming home after the war, but not exactly when.

One of my husband’s aunts told about when her husband came home from the war. She was expecting him the next day and had her hair in curlers to look her best when he got there. But then he got home earlier than expected and came knocking on her door the night before she thought he would be there. I don’t think the hair curlers or lack of being in her best dress mattered at all to her or him. He was home. That was part of the inspiration for the coming home scene for Jay in my Rosey Corner book, Love Comes Home. I tried to imagine and capture the joy of those homecomings after the war.

Each of the books in this giveaway have some story of a veteran. Each author did research or knew stories passed down in their own families of a veteran’s experiences and feelings. Many of the men who served then and who serve now have felt that ache in their hearts to be home with their loved ones. The stories of these characters will surely tug at your heartstrings as you read about their experiences.

But hurry. If you want to have a chance to be one of the winners, check out the link and throw your name in the hat before November 11, 2025 when the winners will be chosen by random drawing. If you have problems with the link, let me know and I’ll make sure to ask the organizer of the giveaway, Heather Tabers, to get you entered.
