The Last Mystery Is Solved

Discovery is seeing what everybody else has seen, and thinking what nobody else has thought. ~Albert Szent-Gyorgyi

Thank you, thank you, thank you to all of you who made this Mystery Photo Game so much fun. You all have the best imaginations. No wonder you love to read and turn those story words into movies in your heads.

I admit that I did come up with some hard ones this time. The bowling ball was the hardest but probably because it was so unexpected. I usually do nature things or household things. You would have never thought about me going bowling although I had a load of fun in spite of my arthritic thumbs and how I rarely knocked down all the pins. I need to get my granddaughter on board for another bowling trip this summer.

This last mystery photo was one I wasn’t sure I should use because I thought it too hard. But then, my daughter knew it and my son-in-law got it right off. So, I thought why not? It is a very interesting mystery photo of the reflection in my sunglasses in the selfie my daughter and I took on a trek down the creek this spring.

A few of you almost got it. You got the reflection anyway. Lisa B, Hope, and Pamela guessed or perhaps knew it was a creek and Pamela saw the dog. Connie saw the dog in a water hole. Connie Lee thought it was Frankie on a rock in the creek. Not Frankie, but Marley.  Several of you saw a snake and I can see that. All those reflections of rocks do look like snake skin. Shari saw a water drop, and Ann and Lee saw some amazing things in that reflection. Ann saw a dog (there was a dog), a kitty and a doll. Lee saw Yoda and Star Trek characters along with plenty more. LOL. I love a good imagination. Three of you saw a log. Nancy saw a fire pit and Linda McF saw a pile of leaves. Loretta’s guess of a pond with lily pads was great. Marley could be a big frog on one of those lily pads.

Loved all the guesses, right or wrong. Nobody was completely right but at least a few of you got the reflection right. I still think it’s a neat picture and since you all are such good sports, I’m glad I used it even though it wasn’t an easy guess for you.  I did try out a few others that I didn’t use.  That means I might be a couple of pictures ahead when I have another Mystery Photo Game in a few months. I promise one othem was going to be easy. 🙂

And the Winners are:

Susan from NC. She’s already responded to my email and has picked An Appalachian Summer because she read Along a Storied Trail and enjoyed going to the mountains for a story.

Janet M. and Carol E. are my other two winners. Haven’t heard from them yet, but I just sent out the emails a little while ago. So Janet or Carol, if you see this, check your email inboxes for my message.

As for the rest of you, I wish you could all be winners and maybe next time I have a giveaway here, you might be. But before that, if you would like some bookmarks for In the Shadow of the River, just let me know and I’ll send some out to you. You can contact me at ann@annhgabhart.com with your mailing address and how many you might like.

Also coming up next week is the Summer Christian Fiction Scaventer Hunt where you could have multiple chances to win books and prizes on the various blog posts on the Scavenger Hunt trail along with being in the running for the grand prizes and maybe win a copy of all the books shown. You’d have so much good reading  and going to the mailbox would be an adventure for a week or two. But just getting to enjoy all the great posts along the Scavenger Hunt as you gather the clues will be fun. The hunt starts June 15th at noon, Mountain time  (that’s 2 p.m. EST) and goes until midnight Mountain time on June 18th.

These Scavenger Hunts are almost as much fun as a Mystery Photo Game. 🙂 Plus, I’ll be offering a prize of an extra cute actress make-up bag along with books here on my One Writer’s Journal just for those who comment on my Scavenger Hunt post. So mark the date and join the fun.

Again, thank you for playing my Mystery Photo Game.

Which mystery photo surprised you the most when you knew what it really was?

  1. This last mystery photo definitely was the most challenging! I still don’t see the reflections that others are seeing, even now that I know what the photo is! I really enjoyed playing your mystery game, Ann 🙂
And the actual photo of you with your daughter is lovely. Your daughter definitely resembles you — same smile, “smiling” eyes, and face shape — two beautiful people enjoying a lovely day together!

We did have a good day down on the creek, and always fun to take a selfie with her. The dog is there in the reflection, but I couildn’t see some of the other things mentioned either, Roberta. But it was fun to hear what they had seen. Glad you enjoyed the game.

  2. That last one was the most surprising to me. Never would have guessed rhat one. You really did a bang-up job of stumping us with this round of mystery photos. It was lots of fun. Thanks for the good time and congratulations to the winners!

So glad you enjoyed the game, Lee. I always have fun when I do one of these but believe you me, it works my imagination too in trying to come up with stumpers. I did better than usual this round. Next time I’ll probably not be able to trick any of you. But we’ll play something new in a few weeks. Gotta keep having some fun.

  3. Congratulations to the winner and to all who guessed. I truly enjoyed the game and have to say the bowling ball picture was a true stumper. Thanks for making me think, imagine, but mostly laugh!!

Laughter is good, Pamela. As the Bible says, a merry heart worketh good like a medicine. That’s in Proverbs. So glad you enjoyed this episode of Mystery Photo Game.

  4. Thanks for the fun game, Ann! I was close, but guessed Frankie instead of Marley. That was a great photo to trick our eyes on. I couldn’t figure out why it looked round and like skin in the front. I thought maybe you were holding the camera and it caught your hand, but now seeing the entire photo it makes complete sense now! lol Congratulations to the winners, but we are all winners getting to play these fun games and getting to read your wonderful stories! 🙂

You did see the dog, Hope, but it was hard to tell in the reflection which dog it was. I thought the reflection picture was fun. I did let a little of my cheek show but I had to try to be a little mysterious. I had a good run with this bunch of mystery photos, for sure. But I think you all had fun using your imaginations. I always have fun when I read your guesses although I do confess I have more fun when you don’t all get your guesses right. It’s not mystery if everybody knows the answer. Thanks to much for playing and for your kind words. I appreciate you.

  5. Congratulations to the winners !
The bowling ball surprised me the most.
I am glad I sorta got the last one right.

You did sort of get this last one right, Lisa. Way to go. Yeah, the bowling ball was harder than I thought. I should have maybe left more of the ball in the picture to make it easier.

  6. Congratulations to the winners! This time around was so much fun, especially that last photo. Wow, a reflection! That was a good one, Ann!

I’d love a few bookmarks. I found myself hunting for one just the other day, and ended up using a business card instead. (I find myself pondering…what happens to my bookmarks anyway? Are they in that great void along with tupperware lids and lost socks?) 🙂
If you don’t still have my address, let me know and I’ll send it to you.
Have a great weekend! I’m anticipating another scavenger hunt. Yay!

I was surprised when I pulled up the image to begin with, Lavon. I wasn’t expecting it to look anything like it did. I had no idea it would show the reflection of the creek and Marley sitting on a rock so clearly. But it was such a fun picture I wanted to use it. Still, hesitated as I said in the post because I thought it was too hard until my daughter and son in law got it right off. So you all got to give it a try too. I still have your address and I’ll get you some bookmarks in the mail soon. So glad you enjoyed the mystery photos and that you look forward to the Scavenger hunt. I’m just hoping nothing goes haywire on my post as it has been known to do in the past.
