Mysteries Can Add Some Fun to Life

“Without mysteries, life would be very dull indeed. What would be left to strive for if everything were known?” ~ Charles de Lint

My first mystery photo didn’t do too badly. Not everyone got it and not everyone didn’t get it. The popular guess was a honeycomb. Very reasonable guess since just a few weeks ago I was all about bees after a swarm rested on a tree stump in our yard and a beekeeper came and captured the hive. By the way, I’m told the bees are very happy at their new home with the workers out collecting pollen and the queen bee busy laying eggs.

But no, the mystery picture wasn’t a a little bit of a honeycomb even if around 25 of you thought it might be. I thought the corn on the cob guesses and the pans of biscuits were great guesses. Wrong, but great guesses. Hope said she knew it wasn’t right but the picture looked like her vitamin pills. A few of you thought of cheetos or cheezits. They are the right color. Debbie saw egg yolks and Ann L. saw an upside egg carton to put those eggs into before they were cracked.  Donna Jean liked the idea of carrots stuck down in a jar. That was wrong, but I could so see that.

Love the way all of your imaginations work, but I have to admit to being happy in these mystery photo games when you don’t all get the right answer. But some of you did. Quite a few of you got it almost right when you said it was the center of a flower but then didn’t name the flower. A few of you had the answer absolutely right. Lavon, who guessed second, nailed it,. She had me  n thinking oh no, everybody is going to get this one. Then the honeycomb guess took over. But Angie, Marji, and Bonnie also got it exactly right.

Now we’ll see how many of you get this next one exactly right.  Could be you will all figure this one out. If you do, I have one that I don’t think anybody will get. In fact, it’s so hard I think maybe I shouldn’t use it at all. Of course, sometimes I think that about one of my mystery photos and then everybody gets it without a problem. So, we will see.

Right or wrong, I love your guesses and your amazing imaginations. Life is more fun with a little mystery in it. And a guess will get you an entry into my book giveaway. I’ll pick three winners by random drawing and notify them by email. Each time you comment with a guess on a new mystery photo, you gt an additional entry. You do have to be at least 18 years old to  enter, but feel free to get input from your kids. My grandkids always think it’s fun when I test the pictures on them. I hope you’ll have fun too. Deadline to enter is midnight EST June 6th.

So what is your best guess for this post’s mystery picture?

Hope you have a good Memorial Day tomorrow with time for some things that make you happy.

More great comments and guesses. Thank you all.

Carol, this could be tapioca pudding. Don’t you just love saying the word tapioca? Some words just dance off a person’s tongue.

Linda, Liz, Sandra and Roberta, You all are all in the bread or muffin corner. I like that you buttered your English muffin, Liz. Makes it taste much better and maybe photograph better too. We’ll see on that.

Lisa H, all right. I’ll just go ahead and tell you. You’re wrong. Don’t think I’ll ever take a picture of ear wax. LOL.

Bonnie, oatmeal is a great guess and could be right. I eat oatmeal every morning for breakfast. While I definitely won’t take a picture of ear wax, I might take a picture of oatmeal.

  2. This photo definitely is a good mystery! My first guess was salad dressing, but after reading several suggestions about bread/English muffins, I’m changing my guess to a slice of homemade herbal bread.

Eager to read your solution to the photo mystery!

  3. Looks like a slice of homemade bread. When I would cut into the bread that I had made, after it had cooled off from the oven, it would look like this.

You guys are kicking it with these guesses and I’m loving it. Thank you for playing my mystery photo game. I’m already thinking about next mystery. I do have this one that I don’t think you could get. Not sure if I’ll use it or not. We’ll see.

Briana, I love popcorn and I know how to make popcorn balls the way the did in the Little House on the prairie books. Hmm, wonder if you’re right?

Karen, I like that you give your husband’s guess with a question mark. I do love Rice Krispie treats as much as I love popcorn. I might have made a treat to reward myself for meeting my recent deadline. We’ll see.

Junle, Mary B., and Connie Lee, you three are thinking alike and the same as some of the earlier guessers with the muffin idea. Could be. Could not be. But you all sounded pretty sure.

Amy B & Linda Mc., cheese was guessed earlier and it’s a great guess. Not saying it’s right. Not saying it’s wrong, but either way it’s a great guess.

Lisa B, I do go down to the creek and I do take lots of pictures. But did I take a picture like this? That is the question.

Dorothy W., I love your guess. The clouds did look great on my walk today and I do like to take pictures of them sometimes. Tomorrow night will be the big reveal to see who might be right on this mystery photo.

Lucy, now you aren’t always wrong. I think I remember once when you solved the mystery. At least once. Could be you did this time too. Either way, I’m so glad you play along with my game.

Ann L., yes, indeed an “I have no idea” gets you an entry the same as a guess. Sometime we just have no idea. I’d be there with you probably if I didn’t already know what the mystery picture is.

Lee, what a great guess. Love it. And if you’re right, you’ll be the only one to figure it out. If you’re wrong, you will win the prize for imagination.

Pamela, you are the second person to guess bread. Could it be that you and Suzanne have figured it out? Or could it be that both of you are wrong? We’ll find out Wednesday night when I publish the rest of the picture.

  5. This one is a real mystery. I can not see determine anything at all. I don’t know if a negative post counts or not, but here it is!!! lol Maybe befor the week ends I’ll see something. But I have looked at quite a few times already.

  6. It looks like it could be a closeup of the froth on the top of a cup of coffee…with a bit of the coffee showing through!
