Seeing the artwork for the cover of a new book is always a highlight.

I’ve already shared this new cover for In the Shadow of the River in my newsletter. I’ve shared it on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. So if you are on my email list or see me out there on some social media sites, you’ve probably already seen the cover. But still, I think I should share it here for those of you who take time to read my weekly words and see my photos. I haven’t added it to my website yet, but I will get that done very soon.

I’m excited for In the Shadow of the River to be in the hands of readers. I think you’re going to like the showboat background and of course, I hope you’ll like my characters. The book won’t release until May next spring. But it is already available for pre-sale online at most bookselling sites. It’s also available for pre-sale with a great 40 percent discount along with free USA shipping from Baker Book House.

Here are the neat taglines the publishers have come up with for the back of the book.

If all the world’s a stage, Jacci will play her part.

She only hopes her story does not turn out to be a tragedy.

Does that make you want to know more about that part Jacci is playing? I hope so.

I’m working on page edits now. Those are the edits where with the help of an editor, I try to make every word count and make sure those words aren’t hard to read or confusing to understand. Always something to do to make a story better. But I’m not sure I could think of a way to make this cover better. I love the color of the stage curtains and the picture of the showboat on the river.

In the newsletter I sent out, I have a giveaway chance as I do with every newsletter. Here’s the link if you didn’t get it. The deadline for entering the giveaway is November 12, 2022 at midnight EST. So, if you didn’t get the newsletter, you can still download it and have time to enter. I always try to make entering easy and fun.

This time, I asked those who entered to tell me which of my book covers are their favorites. Some of the answers have surprised me. I’ll give a report in one of my posts here about which ones have been mentioned most after the giveaway deadline. Who knows? I might have a rush of last minute entries that will change the favorites. Well, probably not, but I enjoy hearing from readers at any time, and I always enjoy hearing from you all in your comments.

So do you like the cover for In the Shadow of the River?

Also don’t forget about Baker Book House’s Big Haul Sale with many great books discounted 50% with free USA shipping to boot. My book, River to Redemption is one of the sale books, but you can find dozens more books by authors you’ll love. Books make great Christmas gifts and if you buy my book and let me know, I’ll be glad to send you an autographed bookplate to put in the book for you or for whomever you might give it to. Special sale ends November 28th.

I hope that will be true when you get a chance to read the story, Connie. I always want readers to be glad they picked up one of my books to head out on an adventure through time and history with my characters.

  1. I love the cover to your new book, wondering what she is thinking about. My favorite cover is An Appalachian Summer loved the cover and the book. I like pictures taken from the back of the person leaves a lot to the imagination.

It’s interesting that you like seeing the back of people in pictures and on covers, Donna Jean. That kind of picture can make you think and imagine.

An Appalachian Summer is one of the popular likes among my covers, but not the favorite.

  2. Yes, I love the cover for your new book–In the Shadow of the River. One thing I like about it is the inset of the riverboat at the bottom, giving a larger view. I also love the larger view of the woman looking out at the auditorium from behind the curtain. A couple of different points of view are given on the stunning cover!

I love the showboat on it too with the steamboat pushing it, Suzanne. That’s how the showboats were powered – by being pushed by a paddle wheeler since the showboats didn’t have paddle wheels at that time. Left more room for audiences.

So glad you like the cover.
