Blackberry Season – Photo Caption Game

Today was good. Today was fun. Tomorrow is another one. ~Dr. Seuss

It’s blackberry season out here on the farm. I’ve been over in the field fighting the briars, the weeds, and the bugs for some wild blackberries. Made a pie and some blackberry jam.

Now I’m picking the tame thornless blackberries we have out by the garden. They’ve gotten a little overgrown, so it’s still a challenge to get them picked as the best ones are always just out of reach. Well, they think they are, but I stretch and shove into the vines and manage to grab that elusive berry. Of course, sometimes after I do that, I drop the berry. LOL. That can be how it is and a lucky thing for a rabbit or chipmunk. But I didn’t drop all of them and I’ve picked plenty to save some in the freezer for pies and to make more jam.

But the best thing about blackberry season is going wild blackberry picking with my grandkids. They are troupers fighting those berry vines. We do hear a few ouches now and again. It’s an adventure for them to look for the biggest and best berries although if they are hard to reach they will yell for their dad to “get those.”

The girls started picking when they were little and while their stomachs probably ended up with more in it than their buckets, they had fun. Plus, they found out that if you want something, sometimes you have to work for it. Best, they had the reward of seeing how many they got at the end by combining all their buckets of berries.

Caption Game

So, seeing as how it is blackberry season and it’s time for a new game here on my blog to give away a book or two, I picked a blackberry picture for our the first photo in our caption game.

Over the next couple of weeks, I’ll share a new picture each time I put up a new post, nearly always on Sundays and Wednesdays although sometimes Wednesday slides into Thursday when I forget what day it is.

You can suggest your best idea for a caption for the picture. I’ll try to find photos that can get you thinking of different possibilities. Each time you suggest a caption on a new photo, you’ll get an entry into a giveaway chance to win one of my books (winner’s choice) and a grab bag book to go with it. I’ll pick three winners at the end of the game.  I’ll post the last of five pictures on July 31st and the deadline to enter is August 2, 2022 at midnight EST. (Can you believe August is almost here?) So, if you suggest a caption for each new photo, you can have five entries. You do have to be at least 18 years old or older to play, but that’s about the only rule. I’ll choose the winners by random drawing and will contact them by email on August 3rd.

Winning something can be fun, but playing a game and exercising our imaginations is fun too. However, if you struggle to come up with a caption, you can still enter just by commenting on the post. But I know you’ll all think of some great things to suggest.

So what  caption would you suggest for this sweetheart and her bucket of berries?

You all are the best. You make my giveaway games so much fun.

Donna Jean, I do make a lot of blackberry pies when it’s blackberry season.

Una, my daughter-in-law has actually made homemade blackberry ice cream. Very delicious.

Lucy, this little granddaughter is a sweetie and she does like a pb & j sandwich to make her sweeter.

Carrie, I am sure she would say off the vine since she doesn’t like pie that much. She didn’t get that from me. I love pie!

Connie, she might be ready to go picvking again. She does have fun picking the berries.

Sue, thanks for stopping by with your suggestion. I’m pretty sure there was enough for a pie.

  3. Momma , I don’t know what tastes better blackberries straight from the vine or blackberries in a cobbler. But i hope there enough in this bucket to find out!!!

Love all your captions. A lot of you suggest making a pie or a cobbler or dumplings. Ola, I’ve made pies and cobblers but haven’t made those dumplings, but it sounds good. I’m guessing you could make some good ones.

Bn100 – love your caption about her getting 1st prize in the berry picking contest.

Lucretia – you have me smiling with her asking me to guess what color her tongue is. Great caption.

Janice and Karen – you must have noticed that the bucket was a trick or treat bucket. Made a great berry bucket too. And berries are a better treat than candy.

Bonnie, I think she does feel she conquers when she gets a bucket full. Well, when she get me to pour mine into her bucket to up her amount. 🙂 Because Linda is right. It’s hard to fill to the top.

Deborah, I doubt she would be able to say truthfully that she didn’t eat any. That girl loves berries.

Ann, she does think it’s fun. Even now when she’s a teenager.

Parthena, I love your sweets for the sweet. And Roberta, pure sweetness is right about those grandbaby gifts from the Lord. Pamela, we have made some memories and most of them were sweet, but there was that time she got into a tick nest and her dad and I had a job making sure we got them all off her.

Peggy, those berries do make some sweet pies and jam.

Thank you all for your captions. Love them.
