One More Mystery Photo

“I love to see the sunshine on the wings of the Dragonflies… there is magic in it.” ~Ama H. Vanniarachchy

And so we are down to our last mystery photo for this Mystery Photo Game. We’ll play again but I have to have time to gather up some more mysterious photos. You people are sometimes hard to trick with my mystery photos. I was surprised that Sunday’s mystery photo helped you all exercise your imaginations. I thought more of you would be like Linda Mc and say “I’ve got this one!” And she did as did Tammy with one of the very first comments on the post. I’m groaning and thinking everybody is going to get the picture. But then imaginations kicked in with some fun guesses. I showed the picture to a couple of my granddaughters. One guessed beehive right away the same as some of you and the other was thinking sunlight on mosaic the way others of you were guessing.

They did both get my mystery photo for this post, so I have no hope that it’s the difficult one I thought sure it would be. But I’m posting it anyway. Maybe it’s time for an easier one since I’ve had a pretty good track record with difficulty in this round of mystery pictures except for the first butterfly wing one.

My dragonfly did trick many of you although an insect wing was a popular guess.  I expected the snake skin guesses and thought there might be more fish scale guesses, but only Loretta said that. Janice W. not only got it right. She knew what kind of dragonfly it was. A Widow Skimmer. Here’s a little info about it. “The widow skimmer is a large dragonfly with a wingspan of up to 8 cm. The unique wings of the widow skimmer are dark at the base, white in the middle and transparent at the tips, creating a stripe-like pattern. The widow skimmer can be found up to elevations of 1,700 m.” They can also be found in my hay fields and rarely sit still long enough for me to get a picture, but I caught up with this one early in the morning when it must have still been sleeping. But they best not sleep around Frankie. He is ready to try to catch them.

The dragonfly is an exceptionally beautiful insect and a fierce carnivore. It has four wings that beat independently. This gives it an ability to maneuver in the air with superb dexterity. A dragonfly can put on a burst of speed, stop on a dime, hover, fly backward, and switch direction in a flash. This is a hunting behavior known as hawking. ~Richard Preston

Thanks to all of you for playing my mystery photo game. I’ll pick the last two winners from all the names in my drawing hat. The winners will get to pick one of my books as a prize.

I am ready to draw another winner in my newsletter giveaway since I never heard from Missy, the first place winner. So it will be back to the drawing hat so I can get those prizes mailed out. But it might take me a few days since my twin grandsons are coming to visit this week. We’ll have to think up some fun things to do. Maybe chase a few Widow Skimmer dragonflies over in the hay field.

Also if you like to e-read, you can still grab some of my books are great prices. Angel Sister is either 99 or 79 cents according to where you’re e-book shopping. The Hidden Springs mysteries are all on e-book sale. Murder at the Courthouse is 99 cents. Murder Comes by Mail is $1.79 and Murder Is No Accident is $1.99. But the sales end very soon. Always double check your price before you buy if you want to make sure the deal is still good.

As always, thanks for reading.

  1. No clue once again!! I wonder what part of my brain doesn’t work well when it comes to imagination??? Hmm!

Paula, I do love those purple iris. Mine didn’t bloom very well this year. I need to separate them, I guess. But I had some so I could have taken a picture. Maybe.

April, there are a lot of kinds of flowers. Wonder if this is one of them?

Marji, I love black raspberries with or without water droplets. And I have been known to take pictures of berries. So maybe.

Pat M, I like the fish in an aquarium guess. Could even be right. Those little fish are always pretty.

Lisa B, so you think I zoomed up on a flower. Hmm, you’ve already been right once. Could it be you’re right again?

Betty W, your guess is fun. Those bubbles are fun too. The grandkids used to love blowing bubbles but they had a hard time keeping from spilling all the bubble stuff.

Sandi, you’re agreeing with Pat. So could be you’re both right. Could be you’re both wrong. We’ll see on Sunday.

  3. This one looks like another butterfly wing, although I don’t know that I’ve seen purple butterflies. I always enjoy your mystery photo games.

  4. This one really has me stumped, Ann! But I’m guessing it’s a flower, maybe an iris? My grandson thinks it’s the decorative rocks in a fish tank, because he sees bubbles.
    These guessing games are fun!
Have a glorious day and a good morning walk with Frankie.

  5. Again I haven’t got a clue! Aren’t you glad that most of your players have better imaginations than I! I do believe I’m a bit behind in the mystery photo game. Don’t know what happened??? Have a beautiful week! 😊
