Loving Berries – Straw and Black

I love berries. Strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, black berries, anything with an ‘errie’ in it! ~Jordin Sparks

I’m late to the mystery photo game tonight because the kids came out to go blackberry picking tonight. It’s been a very disappointing blackberry season. After the abundance of wild raspberries, I really thought the blackberries would be just as good or better. I mean it rained every day for a month. That should be plenty of water, right? But maybe it was too much water. Maybe the bees didn’t get to do their job because of the rain. Whatever the reason, the berries aren’t plentiful and some of those on the wild vines over along the edges of the hay fields are being picked by varmints, I think. Deer like berries and will nibble them off the vines. You can see where they mash down the weeds to get to them. And you can find more berries hidden under leaves or too high for the deer to easily reach. But we did pick a few. Maybe enough for a few jars of jam or maybe a couple of cobblers.

We sprayed bug spray and more bug spray on the kids and one of them still brought home a leg and foot full of teeny tiny ticks. They were so small I could barely see them, but we got out some duct tape to lift them off her. Bet you didn’t know that was a use for duct tape. Sometimes I think people use duct tape for everything except on ducts. I think wild blackberry picking is over for this summer and we will hope for more next year and fewer ticks. Especially those so small you need a magnifying glass to see them. So no worries about me doing a mystery photo of those.

Sunday’s mystery photo turned out to be more mysterious than I thought it would be. Many of you were on the right track but nobody got it exactly right. Amy was maybe the closest with her some kind of berry although April also said close up of fruit. Several of you guessed cucumbers and/or pickles. A good guess. Pineapple was a popular guess. I smiled at Marji’s chubby caterpillar guess and admired Emily’s kitchen sponge guess. That took imagination. Betty said pistachio waldorf salad. An interesting guess that was echoed on a comment on Facebook. I did love all the guesses and I have to admit, I’m always glad when I trick you and you don’t all get the right answer.

The mystery photo was a green strawberry. Was it cheating to not wait for the strawberry to get ripe? Well, all is fair in love and war and mystery photo games!!

So up top is mystery picture number four. It’s not a picture of anything exotic. Most, if not all of you, see something like it on a regular basis. Now that’s enough clue. You probably already know that it is. I did pick winner number one last Friday. I’ve already sent Patty her book. She wanted River to Redemption. I’ll pick winner number 2 on Friday and then 2 more winners on Friday the 27th. Remember each time you guess on a new mystery photo, you get your name in the drawing hat again to give you extra chances to win. You do have to be at least 18 years old to enter. Then all you have to do is join in the fun and take an imaginative stab at what in the world is that.

Thanks for reading. Hope you are having fun playing my mystery photo game. I promise I have one of the hardest ones ever waiting in the wings. That may mean you will all get it on first guess. Sigh. But still fun. 🙂

Evelyn, those rolled roast are the best, but these days you almost have to take out a loan to buy one. But I could have done that and taken a picture to remember it by. LOL.

Marji, another great guess. The weave in a dish cloth. Could be.

Lisa, so your husband doesn’t agree with you. You didn’t say what he thought it was, but you aren’t the first to say bacon. That doesn’t prove you’re right, just popular.

Nancy, glad you’re having fun playing my mystery photo game. I have fun trying to trick you all. Sometimes I’m better at it than other times. Jello has been another popular guess. Again, that no proof you’re right, but you are at least on the same page as some other guessers.

Betsy, chocolate cake with white icing. That does sound good. Is it somebody’s birthday? We can stick some candles on it if it is.

Karen, I’ll go for the strawberry cheesecake instead of Betsy’s chocolate cake. I love a fruity cheesecake. Now we’re all hungry.

April, here you go thinking bacon and that makes me think of bacon and tomato sandwiches. My favorite summertime meal. So maybe you’re right. We’ll see when I reveal the rest of the picture on Sunday.

Thanks for all the guesses. It’s a variety of ideas, isn’t it?

Virginia, muddy tire tracks is a great guess. Might even be a right guess, but then again, it also might not be a right guess. I do like to keep you guessing. 🙂

Margaret, so you think it could be bacon. Interesting guess. Wonder if it’s right or wrong.

Lavon, strawberry jam was really good on my toast this morning. So maybe I did take a picture of it. Maybe.

Emily, berries are good for us, so it’s good that we love them. What flavor jello do you think is in that mold? Hmm.

  3. Wow, I can’t believe I was close on the last one. This one is another stumper. My first thought is a jello mold, although your clue of something we see everyday doesn’t hold true for that. I also thought a candy of some kind. Didn’t Lifesavers have fruit and cream varieties years ago?

Hi, Amy. Yes, you were the one who was closest to getting the strawberry mystery picture right. I have to admit that once I saw the cucumber and pickle guesses that I agreed with them that it looked more like a cucumber than a strawberry. But that’s the fun of mystery photos.

Emily thought the new mystery picture looks like a jello mold too. Maybe I’m one of those crazy people who mold jello every day. My grandkids would be happy. They love jello, especially green jello. We can be sure the mystery picture is not of GREEN jello. I like the Lifesaver guess too. My favorite are the peppermint with orange. Yum.

  4. I think it’s a jar of strawberry jam. But it could be you’ve just got me to thinking about berries this morning.
    Have a great day, Ann!
