So have you ever wondered what your dog would name you?
Or if perhaps he does have a dog name for you? I think Frankie’s for me is a high pitched yippy bark. The bark that makes me frown and tell him “NO!” lol. But we’re not naming us. We’re naming them and I have a new dog needing a name tonight. Karen told me I should post a gerbil, but I’ve never had a pet gerbil. I could find a cow or a chicken to name. We used to name our cows all the time. So maybe that will be Wednesday’s chance in my Name the Pet game, but first I want to see what you might name this dog.
Horse Names
You all are wonderful animal namers. I like the horse names you thought up. Excellent names. These guys are actually my neighbor’s horses and none of you picked the names their owners picked. Well, the brown horse may have come to their farm with his name already. While I like your suggestions of Sir Chocolate and Midnight and Lady and Prince and all your other great names, his name actually was George. That’s right. George. Somehow he just doesn’t look like a George to me and it took me forever to remember his name. The other horse has a better name. The most popular ones you suggested were Patches, Patchwork, Cabbage Patch, but other suggestions were good too. Like Ginger or Spice, Sidekick (2 people suggested that) or Champ. His name is actually Moses. Not a bad name for the pony.
The little colt in the other picture is a horse that we once had. Back when we first married, my husband was always talking about wanting a horse. So I found a way to get him one for his birthday one year. My uncle was selling the brown mare who was aptly named Brownie. Have you ever thought you wanted something and then when you got it decided that maybe that wasn’t exactly what you’d hoped for? That was Darrell with this horse. Brownie wasn’t the best riding horse. She had a tendency to take Darrell under trees when she wasn’t wanting to be a good horse. And then he thought it would be good to let her have a foal. He’s a cute one, isn’t he? I didn’t get in on naming this one. Darrell named him Skipper because he said that was a nickname for him when he was a little kid.
Unfortunately, when Skipper grew bigger, he decided the most fun thing in life was chasing cows. I suppose he needed other colts to race around with, but since there weren’t any others available, he tried to turn the cows into horse playmates. He was a very pretty horse and liked his nose rubbed. That’s about all I ever did with him. I wasn’t the one who wanted a horse. Except once. My husband had left him tied to a tree. I don’t remember why. But the rope got all tangled up around Skipper’s legs. The dear horse stayed very calm as I lifted his legs to free him. The reason I remember it so well is that at the time I was very pregnant with my daughter. But as they say, all’s well that turns out well. Skipper got untangled and I didn’t get kicked.
On to the Name the Pet Game

A name suggestion on this new pet picture gets you an additional entry if you’ve already named some of the pets so far. Only one more pet to name on Wednesday. Loretta – Angel seems a great name for a white dog, but I’ll give you a little preview of tomorrow’s post. This dog isn’t always an angel. 🙂 Dogs do probably think we’re pretty Bossie at times.
GB – Happy definitely fits this dog, but I like Reggie and Molly too. The neighbors once had a dog named Molly who would come and walk with me every day. It was fun having them come visit to go for a walk. Mom or Honey sound like great names for your dog to call you – right along with everybody else in the house.
Elizabeth – You covered a lot of the white dog names. You’re the second to suggest Ghost. But I like Shadow better. And Dairy Queen has me thinking ice cream with Blizzard. 🙂
April – You’re the second to suggest Lola. I’ve never known a dog named Lola but I think it’s a good name. Might work for a cat too.
Connie – I like names that work for either male or female. We had a little girl dog we called Sammie once. Of course her complete name was Samantha. Come On works for what a dog might name an owner. Frankie might think “This Way.” That’s what I’m always telling him to keep him going my way.

Birdie – So you’ve had some dogs that look like this one? Honey fits.
Pat – There have been some winter suggestions like Snowball but some other winter thinking too like Elsa from Frozen. Weida is an interesting name. Mama Jo sounds like a nice name for your dogs to call you. Woof Woof might be more dog language. 🙂
Ola – Belle is always a good name for a pet.
Mary – I like Cameo. That’s a different slant on the dog’s color.
Shelia – You’re the second to suggest Snowball. This dog is very white.
Linda – Shasta is a good dog name. And I’m sure Frankie would named me Bossy too. Loretta says her furry friends would call her Bossie too.
Shirley – I like Caspar. My granddaughter named a cat Caspar once, but he was all black. Go figure. 🙂 I can imagine Frankie thinking Grumpy might fit me too. I’m like you that no this, no that is what he hears a lot.
Jesse or Jamie could be for either boy or girl. My dog might name me “Come on”, I’m always telling her to come on!
I would name the dog Lola. I had a beautiful white dog named Lola. Out of all of the pets I’ve ever owned she is my favorite.
I’d name it Shadow, Ghost, Moon, or maybe Blizzard.
