The Blessings of Spring

In the Spring, I have counted 136 different kinds of weather inside of 24 hours. ~Mark Twain

We had a teasing day of spring/summer this week. Temperature zoomed up to 78 degrees. Then it plummeted. Here it is April and not even April 1 so we can think it’s an April Fools’ joke and snow is in the forecast. Snow. 3 to 5 inches of snow. My little hyacinths will have a white blanket over them.

I’m holding out for the weathermen to be wrong. They are sometimes. Wrong. Snow on April 13th or 14th is definitely wrong. But in spite of the chill that has lingered, flowers are blooming. Grass is growing. Birds are singing. Spring is here. The cold winds will figure that out sooner or later and retreat to northern Canada or somewhere. Bring on southern breezes.

Even if the air outside doesn’t feel very springy, the stories some of you shared with me when you entered my spring giveaway make me feel like I’m sitting on the porch in the sun with the scent of lilacs in the air. You still have time to share spring stories with me or stories or not, you can enter my spring giveaway. Check out the details on my News & Events Page.

Melissia’s Story – Each Season Holds Special Memories

Melissia shared what she loves about Spring and took us with her down memory lane to when she was a kid. Here’s her story.

I love the feeling of new life and new beginnings in Spring! I love the flowers, sunshine, cool breezes, etc. It brings back memories of making flower chains and looking for four leaf clovers. We played outside as long as we could, chasing lightening bugs and rolling in the cool grass. I was blessed to be raised in the country where we walked barefooted to the old country store a few miles down the road. And when the “pump” was pumping, we went swimming. The water at the pump was from an Artesian well that was so cold, you had to run and jump in all at once or you’d never get the courage to go in. Even on the Deep South’s hottest days, you would get goose bumps! On the last day of school we met there to eat a watermelon that we set in the water to get cold. We were fortunate to have acres and acres of blackberries so we made a lot of pies and cobblers. We rode bikes and walked miles in the sunshine. Each season holds special memories. I have had a blessed life!

Thank you so much for sharing your memories, Melissia. I too made flower chains, chased those lightning bugs and went barefoot all summer. I picked those blackberries and ate those cobblers. Didn’t have an Artesian well but did have creeks to play in. I too have had a blessed life with so many great memories.

Robin’s Favorite Season

Now Robin shares what she loves about spring.

I love how everything comes back awake in the spring! The spring flowers are such a welcome sight along with trees budding & starting to leaf out. Everything turning from drab browns to vibrant greens, birds singing & warm days when you can open your windows for some fresh air in the house! Being able to read on my back deck again. I love it all! Can you tell spring is my favorite season? LOL!!

I think we can, Robin. Spring is a favorite season of many. Now if we can just push winter out of the way and get Spring on in here. It’s flower time.

As always, thanks for reading, and don’t forget to check out my spring giveaway.

Good to hear from you, Emily. Spring stories should be full of hope and smiles. We’re just wishing we’d get some warm sunshine around here. Snow is actually in our forecast for tonight and that is very uncommon in Kentucky.
