Imagination Exercise

The true sign of intelligence is not knowledge but imagination. ~Albert Einstein

You all came through once more and exercised your imaginations with some wonderful visions of well, imagination. After my granddaughter looked at the last mystery picture and knew in five seconds what it was, I thought maybe some of you would do the same. To make you feel better my daughter had to ask what it was and I think I’d shown her the rest of the picture a week ago. I thought it was a really hard one and except for one of you (and my granddaughter), it was.

But I loved your imaginative guesses. Several of you saw a deer head whether a picture of the real thing or one from folded paper or a towel. Some saw flowers. Three of you saw a popsicle. Trudy said that was because she needed a way to cool off with the temperature so hot where she is. Here in Kentucky it’s been cool, but a popsicle is good any weather. Oh wait, I forgot about Lucy’s deer licking a popsicle. Love that Lucy.

A couple of you saw a coffee mug.  Others saw a faucet. Lisa saw an animal skull on a dishtowel. Loved Hope’s very imaginative guess of the inside of a red pepper. And Amy thought maybe I was sewing something that needed a zipper.

Lee started out with a popsicle and then added a few more. She thought maybe I took a picture while making Christmas cookies. Rebecca, I loved your very detailed description of what the photo was. I especially liked the paint-spattered ladder. I went back and looked at the mystery picture and could almost believe you were right and I had just forgotten which picture I posted.

I had to love the imaginative animal sightings from the deer I’ve already mention to a giraffe and then an aardvark and finally Suzanne’s armadillo perched on something. She had second thoughts, but I’m really glad she sent her guess on in. Love it when you all let your imaginations whirr and come up with such great answers for the mystery photo.

I like nonsense; it wakes up the brain cells. ~Dr. Seuss

Ahh, but one of you was right. Yay, for Elisabeth who said candles.

I think the blown candle flame is what gave rise to all the animal head guesses.

Oh, and if you’re wondering, the granddaughter who solved the mystery in seconds is the sister of this birthday girl. In fact that granddaughter is celebrating a birthday today but is having to wait for her birthday candles until another day. She celebrated with friends today and will have a family party later, with cake and candles, although sometimes she chooses cookies instead of cake.

And speaking of celebrations, I’m happy to report that The Song of Sourwood Mountain won a Silver Award (2nd place) for Historical Romance novels in the Selah Book Awards this week.

Are you ready for more imagination exercise? Got a guess for the photo up top?

If you guess on each new photo, you get another entry in a drawing to win an autographed copy of one of my books (winner’s choice. and 2 winners.)  I have a feeling this one is finally going to be the easy one for you, but it is such a neat picture, I couldn’t resist letting it be my third mystery photo.

More great ideas of what this mystery picture might be. Love how all of you keep sending in guesses. There is variety but with reptiles leading the list, I think.

Carole – I might have been brave enough to get that close to a hornet or close enough to zoom in anyway. Maybe. We did find a hornets’ next up in a tree in our yard once. Bound to have been hornets around.

Karen – I have often taken pictures of turtles. They will sit still for you while you focus in. LOL. But we shall see if this is from one of those pictures when I post the rest of the picture later today.

Rebecca – an insect covers a lot of ground but agrees with several others who have left guesses. And I didn’t say the guess had to be specific, just an idea of whatever it might be. Perhaps you got it. Maybe. Maybe not.

Amy – You are the second one to come up with Godzilla. Isn’t that the greatest name for a scary monster?

Lisa H – The candle picture was very mysterious, for sure. This one maybe not quite as mysterious, but reptile guesses are the leaders. Wonder if they are right. We shall see when I post the rest of the picture later.

Jacinda – I love your name. I need to remember it for a character in one of my stories someday. Maybe the next one when I go back to Sourwood Mountain for a story. As for your mystery photo guess, frog has been a popular one. We shall see if it turns out to be right as well as popular

Marji, I’m so glad you loved my book, The Song of Sourwood Mountain. It’s one I’m really glad I wrote. I so enjoyed the setting and the characters, especially Ada June and her dog, Bo. I’m actually going to write a sequel, if all does well. Yew berry is a great guess.

Elisabeth, you should be feeling good after getting the last mystery photo right. And what fun that you checked my about page to see what kind of dogs I have. No pug, but of course, that wouldn’t mean that I don’t know someone who does have one. 🙂 Frankie and Marley say thanks for saying they were beautiful. Marley doesn’t care about that, but Frankie, I think, likes it when people brag on how pretty he is. But your second guess of a stuffed animal face is neat too.

Connie Lee and Megan – Frog is a great guess. I guess the picture looks reptilian and perhaps that’s because it is. Perhaps.

Una, Marti, and Angie – It does definitely look like an eye. So, maybe it is. We shall see tomorrow night. 🙂

Again, you all have made the Mystery Photo Game fun. Thank you for taking the time to look at the mystery picture and try to come up with what exactly it might be.

Lisa, a dog’s nose would certainly be something I might take a phot of. Could be I did.

Kris & bn100 – You are both thinking alligator or crocodile or Kris, maybe a turtle. I have been known to snap pictures of various reptiles.

Trudy – You’re there with Kris and bn100 with the alligator but true, I don’t live in Florida, but I have visited. I have even seen alligators when I visited. Of course I also see snakes now and then out here on the farm. Saw one a couple of weeks ago in fact. The question is did I take a picture of it.

Diana, I love your idea of a doorknob. I confess I have taken pictures of doorknobs a ew times. Maybe this is one of them.

Lee, I like how you want to believe I am tricky. Maybe because I am. And I do see both bugs and blackberries. Sometimes I see a bug on a blackberry.

Dana, a cicada is a great guess. Maybe even a right one or maybe not. One thing sure, though, is that they are noisy bugs.

Hope, I would have been like you and never figured out that candle picture if I hadn’t been the one to snip a bit out of the picture myself. Toad is a great guess for this new picture. Wednesday we’ll see if it’s right. So glad you think the game is fun.

Lavon – Gee, how did you ever guess it was Godzilla? 🙂 Maybe a cicada is a Godzilla type of bug. Frankie is like your Ollie. When the bugs first started emerging from the ground, I could barely get Frankie to walk. He wanted to keep catching the bugs. Love the guess you woujld have made on the last mystery picture. It did look like a bananz peel.

Judi, you and some others are seeing that snake head, but you hedge your bets with a couple more guesses. It might be any of the things you suggest.

Susan, A chocolate cake with a candle. Hmm, I do take pictures of cakes and candles at time. We shall see – on Wednesday.

  4. Hi Ann! I going to guess a cicada. Since I love to work outside in my yard, I have become all too familiar with them. They have landed on all parts of my body, but seem to love my hair. They also loved my yellow shirt, flying full speed ahead into my sunglasses with a clink, attacking my adams apple, and the worst was landing in my lips.

Initially, I thought they were quite intriguing. However, I am quite annoyed by them at this point. Lastly, I am not sure I will know how to respond to a quiet outdoors once they are gone.

The cicadas are a unique happening, Victoria. I’ve carried a few inside with me after being outside. They showed up the year we moved here to the farm and promptly ate the trees we had set out in the yard. At least topped them. Then they ate holes in the plastic screens on our new windows. Hoping this time they will just make noise. The birds are happy though and Frankie who is getting a bug boost to his diet. LOL. They will be gone for another 17 years soon. And we will still have jar flies and the night bugs. Not as loud though. And it could be you have made a good guess. We shall see on the big reveal on Wednesday.
