It’s my pleasure to host award winning author, Mindy Starns Clark on this Scavenger Hunt. Mindy has numerous fiction and nonfiction books to her credit and you can be sure of a good read when you pick up one of Mindy’s books. Here’s more about her newest book, My Daughter’s Legacy, a thrilling tale of how two women longing to follow God’s leading, make the most of second chances and find true love at last.

Women of Unfailing Conviction

Virginia, 1864
Therese Jennings cannot abide the thought of owning slaves. When her widowed mother inherits a plantation, Therese flees to Civil War Richmond, where she works as a governess by day and tends to wounded soldiers at night. But when trouble befalls her family, can she reconcile her obligations with her beliefs? And will love—whether with an old beau or a handsome new suitor—ever fit in her broken world?

Virginia, present day
Nicole Talbot’s life is back on track after years of substance abuse. Home from college for the summer, she’s finally ready to share a shocking secret, one that raises new questions about a traumatic childhood experience. But when facts she uncovers cast doubt on her family’s legacy, she must risk all that she’s gained—her fresh start, her family’s trust, and her growing relationship with a new man—to unlock the secrets of the past.

Now it’s Mindy’s turn. Enjoy.

A Southern Belle by Mindy Starns Clark

Just because my latest book is a serious work of fiction doesn’t mean I can’t get a little silly now and then when sharing it with others. “Silly” is definitely the word for this video—though I’m hoping you’ll have as much fun watching it as I did making it!

The Story

A bit of background on the novel first…

  • My Daughter’s Legacy , co-written with Leslie Gould, is the third and final book in our Cousins of the Dove series.
  • The novel features two heroines living in two different eras—one in the Civil War south of 1864 and one in the modern day—and their stories intertwine in unique and important ways.

The Movie

  • The minute-and-a-half film below, which is making its debut here, presents a reenactment of a brief excerpt from the historical portion of the story.
  • Like I said, it’s pretty silly—and it doesn’t reflect the tone of the tale, which is far more dignified, I promise—but it is a lot of fun. The star of the movie is my dog, Belle, who plays the roles of both Therese and her mother.

Mother

Therese

  • As you watch, bear in mind that NO ANIMALS WERE HARMED IN THE MAKING OF THIS FILM! If you follow me on Facebook, where Belle is featured every Friday, you’ll know she’s a Therapy Dog and loves any activity—with or without costumes—that puts her at the center of attention. My daughter Emily was her “handler” throughout filming, and the only possible negative ramification from that process was that Belle may have earned a few too many dog treats for her good behavior. J

So, drum roll please, with all of the above in mind, I hope you enjoy Belle’s reenactment of a brief scene from the historical portion of My Daughter’s Legacy

To see more of Belle, including another upcoming reenactment from the book and an eventual “Making of” video, visit my blog or follow me on Facebook. Thanks for watching, and best wishes as you continue with the Scavenger Hunt!

Thanks, Mindy.

What a fun post! Hope you all enjoyed reading about Mindy’s new book, My Daughter’s Legacy, and watching Belle act out that scene. Don’t think I could have ever talked any of my dogs into wearing a hat!

I will make sure you’re entered, Brenda. Sorry you had trouble with the rafflecopter. I did too when I was trying to load it. But I’ll work around the problems and make it work. Love that you like Christian fiction.

  1. I read Christian Fiction because it’s clean and most of the time gives a good lesson to learn. Or at least the ones I read are.

  2. What a darling way you presented your story..I love being part of the scavenger hunt (my first) and meeting new authors. Please choose me for your extra gift!

I like reading books that make me feel good too, Jeanne. I want to be entertained by a good story and uplifted too as well as encouraged in my daily walk.

  5. Such a cute video and adorable Belle!
I signed up for your newsletter Ann (I may be getting it, but wanted to be sure). I read Christian fiction for several reasons…I want to read stories/books that express/reflect God’s love, grace and hope within its pages….I know that I won’t be exposed to words or scenes that I do not want to read.

Great, Tina. You won’t be signed up twice if you’re already signed up, but I’ll check to be sure. Your reasons for reading Christian fiction are great and echo some of the reasons I am so glad to be writing for the Christian market. God’s love, grace and hope in a story has to make it better.

  6. I would love to be entered to win this prize. I didn’t even see the Rafflecopter thing. First off, I love the video and especially the way you incorporated the dog. Second, I adore Leslie Gould and her writing style. Third, you writing with her is new to me. Fourth and finally….I love anything Willow Tree.

I love historical fiction too, Laura. Guess that’s why I’ve written quite a few historical books. I do learn so much while I’m researching, but I also enjoy reading historical fiction and taking trips back into the past.

Welcome, Melinda. So glad you enjoyed Mindy’s video and that you’re discovering new, well as you say, new to you authors. Most of the authors, if not all of them, on the Scavenger Hunt have been writing for a while.

Linda, I’m like you. I often can’t see the purpose of certain types of offensive material in some books. To be honest, I don’t see the need for offensive language in our movies or the way people talk. But then I am sort of old fashioned about that sort of thing. A faith thread woven into a story is always good.

Valerie, you are so right about Christian fiction being amazingly diverse right now. You can find all sorts of genres now and every story whether a mystery, a historical, a romance or whatever genre can share the message of God’s love.

Caryl, thanks for telling us what you like in Christian fiction. And those pups are cute, but I do think perhaps both parts were played by Mindy’s dog, Belle. Obviously a very versatile dog actress.

  9. I love reading Christian fiction because I can be assured that I will not come across offensive material that would ruin a good story for me, and I love seeing the truth of the Gospel being woven into real life situations.

  10. What a cute video, Belle is adorable!! I really enjoyed that 🙂

I’m loving the scavenger hunt and visiting all the various blogs to learn more about the authors I love. Thanks for your giveaway Anne, and now I’ll receive your newsletter too!

Great, Trixi. So glad you’re enjoying the Scavenger Hunt. I’ve enjoyed reading all the posts about the new books too. And thanks for signing up for my newsletter. I’ll have to think of something really fun for the next one I send out.

  11. Please enter me for your prize. Love your books. I love Christian fiction because the purpose for the characters always has a sense of hope because they have faith. Other books the purpose for the characters seems to have an empty feeling.

Love that comment about the stories having a sense of hope, Susan. I have read some books that did leave me with that empty feeling, but I like a book I can turn the last page with a smile because hope is in the future for the characters. Thank you for reading my books.
