No Mystery about Pie

“Everyone has a favourite cake, pastry, pudding or pie from when they were kids.” ~Paul Hollywood

Okay, so plenty to you like cherry pie as much as I do. Linda, Connie, Karen, Amy, Susan, Betty, and Pat guessed my mystery picture without a hitch. Cherry pie! Several more of you picked cherry something like Emily’s jelly filled Christmas cookie. By the time I finished reading all your cherry sweets guesses, I was ready to make another cherry pie. So here’s the one I did make not long ago. I took a picture fast because cherry pies don’t last long around our house. This one was made with bought canned cherries. I’ve run out of the frozen packages of cherries from my daughter-in-law’s grandfather’s tree. They were absolutely the nicest cherries, but his tree up and died. No more frozen cherries to save for pies.

Before they completely ran out, I kept finding just one more package of cherries after I thought I’d used them all. The way I kept finding cherries made me remember the widow’s oil story in 2 Kings 4:1-7 where a widow goes to the prophet Elisha when she has no money and her creditors are threatening to take her sons as slaves. Elisha asks what she does have and she tells him, a little bit of oil. Then he instructs here to borrow every container she can from her neighbors and then go into her house with only her sons as witnesses and begin pouring oil in the containers from the little bit she had. The oil in her bottle didn’t run out until every container was filled. Then Elisha tells her to sell the oil to pay her creditors and live on what was left. But what if she hadn’t believed enough to borrow more and more containers?

I love Bible stories even more than cherry pies.

And I loved some of your stories when you were guessing on what the mystery picture might be. While some of you did immediately see a cherry pie, others of you have some very vivid imaginations. I loved Evelyn’s muddy shoe print on a rug. And Pat guessed the inside of a fish’s mouth. Not sure I’ve ever seen the inside of a fish’s mouth. Or even want to. 🙂 You can tell I’m not a fisherman. Kathleen saw a teddy bear, and Kathy and Betsy were thinking dog pictures. Marji saw dead leaves. Jean saw critters in a nest inside a tree, and Lana must have been reading a mystery since she imagined seeing an arm holding something behind the shower curtain. Very mysterious.

Since we’re talking mysteries, yesterday was the official release day for my new Hidden Springs story, Murder Is No Accident. Reviews are popping up like dandelion fluff balls after you mow the yard. No mowing yards today. It’s cold out there. We missed winter here in February but winter always has to show up. So it did. This week. No snow for us, but cold temperatures that are freezing the flowers in their tracks.

The new mystery picture is up at the top. Can you guess what it is? A new guess will get you another entry into the giveaway to win a copy of your choice of one of my books including the new Murder Is No Accident. The guess doesn’t have to be right. “I don’t know” gets you an entry too. But it’s fun to use your imagination and guess. You’ll probably all get this one. I’ve switched it out a couple of times because I just couldn’t decide which one was best. The first one was too blurry. This one may be easier. Oh well, it’s all in fun and gets you in a drawing to win a book. But I’ll be looking all weekend for something very, very mysterious for Sunday’s post.

Thanks, as always, for reading.

Love your guess, Linda. Not saying it’s right, but I love someone who uses their imagination. Check back later to see if your imagination was seeing right. 🙂

That’s more fun to hear than the best guess on my mystery picture, Pamela. Thanks and good luck in the drawing. Come back to guess again on the next two pictures to get more entries in the drawing.

Great guesses, everybody. I love yours, Ola, with the hummingbird. Not saying it’s right, but like the idea of seeing hummingbirds everywhere. Most all of you figure it’s a plant and I’m not saying your wrong, but what kind of plant? That’s where things get sticky. Or maybe I just found something that looks like a plant. After all, I am trying to be mysterious. The aquarium guesses are fun too with little fish floating around. Could be. I have been to some of those restaurants where they have fish in a wall of glass. That would make a great picture. So maybe I took it and caught a fish swimming by. Come back Sunday for another mystery photo and to see the rest of this one revealed. Thanks so much to you all for playing my mystery photo game. You got your names in my drawing hat to maybe win a book. Plus, I hope you think it’s fun.

  2. Don’t know about this ,but the first thing I thought of was ,some type of cactus. But then again it looks a lot like weeds that come up in the yard close to the house that you either have to mow or weed eat in the spring. That’s my
guess and I’m sticking to it ! LOL

  3. This picture looks like a close up of some kind of plant but I have no idea on anything more specific than “plant”.

Nice guess, Emily. I appreciate you giving it a try, and who knows? You might even be right. We’ll see on Sunday.

I love Christmas cactus, Robin. And who knows? I might have taken a picture of one. My mom used to be great at keeping them looking good. Mine seem to die, but my sister has one that’s doing well.

Don’t doubt your guess, Margaret. It could be right. Or then again, it could be wrong. Either way, thanks for playing my game. This wasn’t the greatest picture. A little fuzzy. I’ll work harder on the next one. 🙂
