Grandkids

Summer vacation is coming to an end for the grandkids and so I followed through on my promise to take them to the movies before school started yesterday. We barely squeaked it in, but we went to see “Finding Dory” yesterday. Even the older grandkids wanted to see that movie and they all seemed to enjoy it. My husband wasn’t real excited about going to see an animated fish, but he did enjoy the octopus. Of course, the best part is just being with the grandkids and doing something they enjoy.

Here they are this a.m. playing some game on the computer. Big brother is helping little sister navigate the how-to of the game. I think that made it even more fun for her. I noticed my incredibly stuffed bookcase after I took the picture, but it is what it is. I just have too many books. I need a whole wall of bookcases, but if I had them, I’d probably stuff those too. I need to give some books away!

Oh yeah! That’s what I’m doing this month. I’m giving away a book every week in August. Melissa from VA won her choice of one of my books last week. She picked Christmas at Harmony Hill. I’ll pick a new winner on Sunday. You won’t win one of the books stuffed in that bookcase. Instead, you’ll have your choice of one of my books, autographed.

All you have to do is leave a comment on the blog. Each comment on a new blog post gets you another entry. You must be 18 to enter and no purchase is required. I won’t add your name to anything either, but I’d love it if you signed up for my newsletter. I’m going to send one of those out soon with more prizes up for grabs. Just as soon as I find “The End” on this stubborn book I’m trying to write.

So tell me. What did you do this summer with your family that made you smile?

  1. Combining my grandkiddos with a cool pool is pure summer pleasure for me. Seeing the delight on their little faces as I jump them up and down in the water… them hugging my neck tightly, makes for some mighty sweet memories!

That does sound like a great time, Sandi, for you and for them. I’m guessing it makes your house the place to be in the summertime.

  2. It is just.my.husband and our dogs this year and we went camping in April at Fishermans Island in Charlavoix,Michelle. It was cool but.we all sat around the fires we had enjoying looking out at Lake Michigan. The.thing that made me smile.is.on a rain day where both dogs and my husband and I colored together in adult coloring.books while watching TV. I had purchased a coloring.book for.my.hubby on the oft chancestors he.might.enjoy it. It sure put a smile.on my face as it was unexpected.

Sounds like a great time, Rory. I like thinking about sitting by the fire and watching the lake. I haven’t tried any of those coloring books. I think I’d rather read, but I’m almost sure my husband wouldn’t try the coloring. So it’s good you have a fellow willing to give something different a try.

  3. My “Library” looks like your closet. I have probably 400 books! I have read
1396 books since retirement in June, 1997! I love to read as you can see!
I would love to get your “Lilacs” book. My Kobo isn’t talking to my computer
so I cannot download the free one.

    Blessings, Pat

Wow, Pat, that’s wonderful. I can only imagine the many fictional worlds you’ve explored in the last decade or two. And that bookcase does look like a closet, doesn’t it? That’s just the door to my office in the picture. It might be nice if it was a closet so I could shut the door and hide the mess. LOL. Shame on your Kobo. Sorry it’s being difficult. Always fun to hear from you.

  4. Visiting with my daughter and her family tonight. They went to a wedding and are stopping for the night on their way home. Three grand babies: one, three and seven yrs. old.
Son’s little ones were here last week, they are seven and three also! Such energy.
Just did a garage sale for church to raise money for Shepherd’s Pack, a backpack filled with food for kids ( who don’t have enough food )to take home on the weekends. Boy am I tired!
    Blessings to you all

Sounds like a great summer, Paula. I know you enjoyed having all the grandkids at your house. But sometimes it is good to collapse on the couch after they all go home. 🙂

  5. Ann, you sure are a good grandmother, I have not been to the movies for years, btw, what do your grandkids call you? I am Nana to mine, great picture also.😃

I’m Grandma to one bunch and Grammy to the other, Phyllis. When my grandson was little he started saying Grammy and since I sort of liked that better than grandma, I didn’t correct him. But I don’t mind the other kids saying grandma. It’s fun to be their grandmother.

  6. Two summer family activities that made me smile were watching the 4th of July fireworks together and family movie night every Friday in Sunday evening. 🙂 The family movie nights are generally year-round, but they seem extra special during the summer. 🙂

Family movie night sounds fun, Emily. So many good movies to watch. I just took my grandkids to see Finding Dory. They had a fun time. Of course, fireworks are always good to watch with a few oohs and aahs.
