I finally posted a mystery picture that was a mystery to almost all of you. Can you see me doing a Snoopy dance? LOL. I did have one right answer, but not in the comments here. My sister-in-law knew what the mystery photo was and posted her answer on my Facebook page. But then she was a biology teacher along with being a country girl.
So what were some of the guesses?
The popular guess was something in a fish tank. Not a bad guess, but wrong. Then some thought it might be a spider egg sac. Edward even went out on the net to look up spider egg sacs. I may have to go out and see if he found a purple one like in that picture. That would be one colorful spider. Nancy took a walk looking for inspiration since she knows I take pictures when I’m walking. In fact, I did take Sunday’s mystery picture on one of my walks. If she had lived near where I live, she would have seen the mystery photo with no problem at all. She might not have recognized it though. I don’t think I would have recognized it. I had no idea those things looked like that until I did the close-up. It’s great when you reading friends get involved with my mystery pictures.
Linda said she was prepared to say she didn’t know what the picture was even if she did in order to make me feel better about posting pictures that weren’t such mysteries after all. But then she said she really didn’t know what it was. Perhaps she still said that to make me feel better. 🙂 I’m glad it wasn’t her guess of a fungusy carpet. If I have one of them, I’m not taking a picture!
Sandi said it was a finger smashed by a crashing alien ship. Sometimes we have to wonder about Sandi. LOL. Ann M. had a good guess of a green seedy thing. It can pay not to be too specific, but then the seedy thing looks purple to me. I did have fun with all your guesses, both the serious ones and the not so serious ones. Those of you who were thinking seed pods or plants were on the right track.
The Rest of Picture
So now for the big reveal. I had no idea that cedar branches looked like that close up. They seem almost braided, don’t they? I realize I may not have been playing fair for those of you who perhaps don’t have cedar trees around your way. But I told you it was going to be no more Mr. Nice Guy. And right or wrong, your guesses got you another entry in my book giveaway.
Three more pictures to guess before I do the drawing on January 31. So three more chances to get your name in the drawing hat again. The new mystery picture is up top. I’m not sure if it’s very mysterious of not. I guess we’ll see. But even if you guess it straight away, I did get you on the cedar berry and branches. And I have one coming up on Sunday that you’ll never guess. Well, maybe you’ll never guess. Well, I hope I can stump some of you. Oh well, you’ll probably all guess it, but at least we’ll have a little fun.

Fungus can make some interesting pictures, Edward. I’m a little surprised no one has figures this picture out. Guesses have gotten parts of it right, but haven’t quite nailed it. Good one on the cedar picture. I have seen cedars and their berries but couldn’t even guess that’s what it was. This week’s picture is a fuzzy thistle! So much fun and stimulating to the brain!

A fuzzy thistle. I like your guess, Linda. And you’re right about the pictures making you think. Makes me think hard trying to stump you all. And I think I did you on this one. LOL. I tried the cedar picture out on my husband and sisters and they had no idea. We grew up with cedars everywhere. We just never knew their branches looked like that when you looked at them close up. Guess they were too prickly for us to look that close. And of course, cedars played a big part in my Angel Sister book.
Could it be a frosty horse weed stem. I m itching just thinking about it !

It could be, Evelyn, but then it could not be. My husband used to get worms out of horse weed stems (I think it was horse weeds) to use for bait when he was fishing. That might make you itch even more thinking about it. 🙂 But this picture is not itchy.
I think it is a stem of some kind of plant but not sure which one. You are good, Miss Ann!

Those first two mystery photos that weren’t such a mystery got me motivated to be more mysterious, Melanie. Glad I’ve posted a few pics that have stumped people. So far people have guessed around this, edged close, got parts right, but haven’t exactly figured it out. The rest of the picture will show up here on Sunday along with a new mystery photo that I’m thinking won’t be as hard for you all to guess.
I’ll guess the stem of a Black-eyed Susan or a gloriosa daisy. I know both of those are hairy. They make me itch when I chop them up for compost.

Interesting guess, Gin. Black-eyed Susans make me smile, but I guess it will be a little while before we see them again. But then the way the weeks fly by, it will be summer before we know it. Got some writing to do before then!

Anaphalis margaritacea. Good native plantings, attracts butterflies; tie stems together and dry hanging upside down. Light beige color ~ pearly ~ when dried and nice fragrance that is ~ everlasting ~ 😀

A nice cat guess, Amy. I did think about using a cattail, but I figured everybody would guess that too easily.
I think it might be frost on a stick or branch. We got many cedar trees in my backyard, but I’ve never looked that close at one before, they can be very prickly.

Wow, that is really, really interesting! Your last picture being a cedar tree branch. Now I’d like to take a photo and zoom in with photoshop myself.
The new picture is a tree branch or a weed, with prickly spines on it. We have something like that in Florida, and when I trim the branches, the white prickly things can make my skin itch.
