A Bilingual, Talking Cat Named Mitzi

The cat stories aRicky 2009 age 15re rolling in. I’m enjoying hearing all about your favorite cats and all the things they do or did to both drive you crazy and make you love them.

Flora tell us about two of her cats, Mitzi and Ricky. Mitzi crossed the Rainbow Bridge at age 21 and Ricky at age 19½ so since Flora got them when they were kittens, she had a long time to love them. Here are her stories.

Ricky had an accidental “bath” in the toilet (someone left the lid up) when he was a kitten and streaked past us through the living room straight under the dining room hutch. When we got him out, my daughter decided it would be a good idea to blow dry him. (Even after I said “Not a good idea.”) Let’s just say she went to school the next day with a few “war wounds.” LOL

As a kitten Mitzi used to climb up my back and sit on my shoulder to watch me do the dishes.  She would sit in a window and bark at theMitzi 2006 age 15 dogs (yep – she was bilingual LOL). She could also say my daughter’s name (Karen – but it came out more like “Maren”) close enough to cause many hilarious and confusing moments between my daughter and me that went something like this:

K – “What mom?”

me – “What what ?”

K – “You called me.”

me – “No, I didn’t.”

K – “Yes, you did, I heard you!”

Mitzi – “Maren!!”

K and me – “Ohhhhhhhhhhhh!!”

Thanks, Flora, for sharing your talking cat’s story. Our pets do have a way of making us smile. Flora was nice enough to send me photos of her sweet cats after I posted her story. Ricky’s up at the top and Mitzi is down here getting reading to say, “Maren!”  So now you can see Flora’s buddies that are waiting for her on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge.

  1. Just became aquainted with your writings with the series starting with Angel Sister. Fabulous!
I love cats and have a calico named Calli and one black with white feet and a tuxedo markings whose name is Boots. They are great friends and love to chase each other , play tag, & watch the birds at their feeder while sitting on their stools at the storm door. They bring us so much joy!

Great to hear from you, Ellen. Always happy to hear from a new reader to my books. I loved my Rosey Corner characters so I can’t keep from smiling when a reader has enjoyed meeting them too.

Fun to hear about Calli and Boots. I’m putting a calico cat into my current work in progress. Sounds as if your cats are great friends. Thanks for sharing about them. I’ll throw your name in my giveaway hat. I hope you signed up for my newsletter so you can be one of the first to find out about new books and giveaways. I’ll be having a blog giveaway soon.

Again, so glad to hear from you.

  2. Hey Ann,

I love cats. I had one cat, his name was buddy, I had him when I was 5 he was a barn cat, he was a Ragdall cat that will let you do anything to him. I would dress him up in dall cloths, push him on my swing set and it was so much fun. Then I had to move and have had other cats but this rag dall cat was my favorite. And sadly I could not take this cat with me.

I’m sure he missed you, Danie. Sounds as if he was the perfect cat for a little girl. But he might have missed his barn. Still, I’m sure you were sad. Thanks for telling me your cat story.

  3. I just love cats. I think they feel very lucky when they get to live with me because they live to be 20+ years old! Harry actually enjoys traveling by car. We visit his “grandma” on a regular basis about 125 miles from our home to hers . He rides in his carrier and he really seems to enjoy going there. It’s really nice for me because I don’t have to worry about the cat when I go away because he’s with me. I think if I get another cat it should be a very small kitten who will learn to get used to the traveling and enjoy it too.

Sounds as if you have a really nice cat, Laurie. Maybe because Harry goes somewhere besides the vet, he’s learned to like the ride. He probably knows he’s going to get some treats when he gets there. Thanks for joining in my cat story and giveaway fun.

  4. HI Ann,
I got 2 cats since my 6yr old wanted a pet and with it since it was now just the two of us in the house there really wasn’t going to be anyone around enough to take care of a dog. The two grey tabby kittens were just 11 weeks old and came from a feral mother. My daughter named them RIngs and Stripes after the markings on their tails and they proceeded to take over my house. Stripes is without a doubt, the queen of everything and everybody while Rings just wants to be cuddled. What a big change from the dogs that I grew up with.

Your daughter came up with some cute names for her kittens, Denise. I’m sure she had a lot of fun watching them grow up. What a gift you gave her. Also I’m sure cats are quite a bit different as pets than dogs. Thanks for joining in my cat story and giveaway fun.
